Jimmy wouldn't know anything about beating addiction - as much as he fancies himself a recovering alcoholic because he drank a couple six packs in high school. If he were a recovering alcoholic, he wouldn't take the piss out of AA. This is a guy who won't have certain pasta because it may contain traces of wine in the sauce (probably the gayest thing I've ever heard anyone say).
It's not uncommon in AA groups to hear people say that. And I agree wholeheartedly it's fucking stupid. However if that's what keeps you clean and sober and makes you feel like you're living a better life then so be it.
