Is Jim & Sam actually good?
11 2016-11-01 by andiswearrrr
Haven't listened to it, but is it just a case of everyone wanting their old O&A show back, and this is the closest they'll get so they're all in denial about the quality? Or is it actually really funny and entertaining?
I did listen to the ken bone interview, and watched the nancy grace video. It seems like O&A Lite. Or maybe the beta version of O&A. And by beta I mean in terms of social standing -- I always saw Opie and Anthony as jocks (later the truth came out of course, but listening at the time they seemed cool), whereas Sam and Jim are clearly geeks right off the bat. The fuckin' nerds.

It's a lot better than anything we've had for the past two years. They're improving. Worth a shot.

I'll go as far as to say a few moments have made me LOL....if you know what that means.
2 PoopinOpsmouth 2016-11-01
Lol means laugh out loud in case he didn't know
2 xJaysusx 2016-11-01
Fuck. I've been thinking it was "lots of laughs"

I thought it was Lots of Love.

Jim & Sam is to Opie & Anthony As Better Call Saul is to Breaking Bad
13 FaggotBannedKeith 2016-11-01
And the Opie afternoon show gets to be Walt Jr.

Better Call Saul started strong though and seems to be going nowhere.
Hopefully Jim & Sam have no where to go but up!

I enjoy it. It's not O&A, but Jim and Sam have chemistry and the show is consistently funny and improving as it goes. Some of the interviews are pretty boring depending on the guests though
10 ihaveaholeinmyass 2016-11-01
Show is definitely getting better.. they need to give less time to guests.. the best radio so far has been Jim, Sam, tefft and d-boy just pissing about, being silly and having a laugh
2 AiCPearlJam 2016-11-01
Colin and Bobby were good guests.
0 ihaveaholeinmyass 2016-11-01
Sky is blue.. what's your point?

Feels a bit like O and J with out the seething undercurrent of anger. Whether you like it better or not seems to depend on whether you're more a fan of a seething undercurrent of anger or people getting along.
5 brasqo 2016-11-01
It's the best we got. Only show I look fwd to at this point.
5 LOSfan 2016-11-01
Way better than O&J or TACS
The show with Vos and Serra was fucking hilarious
5 glyde69 2016-11-01
It goes from absolutely terrible to sometimes awesome and back almost daily.
I was never an anti-Sam guy, but he's starting to wear on my nerves. He ruined the Ken Bone thing completely by a cocky and wiseass setup so Bone was never completely comfortable to not taking a couple quick fake calls first to lull him in, and then he talked OVER about 1/2 the Ramones so you couldn't hear what Jimmy was saying. He's completely corny, and while he entertains Jimmy while he's being goofy, it's the same sarcastic gag over and over. When Jimmy can't make it, the show is unlistenable. He seems to love a lot of chicks in studio as much as possible, and while a chick once a week is a nice break up of the norm, I'm tired of hearing these corny bitches almost daily. He's better than Opie though.
TL;DR The new show is hit or miss. Sam stinks.

It's good but it hasn't recaptured the "hang" vibe yet.
18 goo-gobbler 2016-11-01
I hope you get a sort of hang vibe

It's pretty good. Better than anything else out there. I could do without the barrage of guests every day though, unless it's a regular like CQ or Bobby. These randos they pull in are just worthless 90% of the time.
2 daveyistheman 2016-11-01
I agree, show isn't bad, but way too many guests. I skip a lot of that.
1 cakehornnigga 2016-11-01
I wonder if Sirius had a stipulation in their contract to take certain guests. I remember Jimmy getting irritated at times on O&A when random dumb guests were always getting on. Keep the regular comics, and only take interesting guests. Id also love to see guys like Sam Morril, Ari, Tom Segura, Luis J Gomez and Big J get on more. Especially Segura, he is a funny fucking guy.
3 Clibanarius 2016-11-01
Yes.
3 Doc_McCoy79 2016-11-01
I love it. It's its own show, but it's a nice offshoot of the old show in tone and quality.
If Opie & Anthony was Alien, Jim and Sam is Aliens.
Travis is like the "Bishop."
2 Dennyislife 2016-11-01
It's strange how the guests somehow feel weaker than Opie and Jim even though they are slightly more entertaining.
Apart from that its a vastly better radio show. I laugh more at it than any of the podcasts i currently listen to.
1 MalcolmX_InTheMiddle 2016-11-01
Blame Roland. I think he sided with Opie.
2 misstheolddaysfan 2016-11-01
Jim says the show is getting amazing feedback. Not just polite good but wild applause good.
1 kusanagisan 2016-11-01
So in a roundabout way, management loves the new direction of the show?
1 Swampbox29 2016-11-01
Ha, exactly.. the show isn't great, unfortunately nothing will come close to O&A in it's heyday
1 kusanagisan 2016-11-01
True, and I've come to accept that. Seems that Jim and Sam also think that, and just want to do a radio show without worrying about living up to anything - letting whatever happens happen.
Opie seems desperate to reclaim what he had during the best days of O&A, however
1 lolercakesmcgee 2016-11-01
They abuse those who deserve it, I approve.
1 RacksDiciprine 2016-11-01
They gota iron out the kinks but soo far it's not bad.
1 WhiskeyOnASunday93 2016-11-01
Fewer laughs and occasionally a bit forced. It takes guests like 49 minutes to settle in and feel at ease.
Like people said, it's no O&A. It hasn't had me rolling on the floor but it's listenable and improving, and a nice companion for my morning commute
1 VirtuaMcPolygon 2016-11-01
It's listenable. If forgettable. It doesn't have the magic of O&A. But i think O&A worked well as A&J worked so well together and O just brought the unsaid bubbling anger.
Strangely I prefer ron and fez to bennington for this same reason. I used to love pep's constant anger at fez and ron trying to not loose his rag with fez. Then fez when he could be bothered to talk generally having a meltdown to people that didn't really give a fuck. Now it's all happily families :(
1 gsbird1065 2016-11-01
Yes. Nothing close to O&A in their prime; but a hundred times better than O&J and TACS, and a thousand times better than Opie Radio.
1 LookyLookyMissCookie 2016-11-01
Sam stinks....does his stupid beavis laugh everytime jimmy makes a joke. Everytime sam attempts a joke he giggles before he says it.
1 Lish_fips89 2016-11-01
It's excellent. Yes, there are far too many trannies, MMA cunts and random Aussie playboys, but it is hilarious. Just be prepared to not listen on Fridays when Jim fucks off for some shitty gig.
1 Ramoooone 2016-11-01
It has potential in my opinion you have to remember it's still a pretty new show they just need to stop doing so many fucking interviews. Colin pointed out that interviews were the worst part of o&a and guess what interviews are the worst part of jim and sam as well
0 KNUCKKLEFUCKER 2016-11-01
That ain't gonna happen. They have access to unlimited celebrities at SXM, especially in the morning. It's those celebrity interview you tube clips that help draw in new listeners as well. Jimmy and Sam are both whores when it comes to meeting celebrities.
1 Hawklight1 2016-11-01
I come from listening to mainly Patrice on O&A + Louis CK/Jim Jefferies and not really listening to the normal show and so far i really like the new show maybe its just because its new but ive liked every show so far and plan to keep listening.
1 KnickedUp 2016-11-01
Its.......well.....not Opie. But, I find myself not really enjoying it.. especially with the guests somehow getting worse than they were with the old show. Jimmy will eventually get sick of having a spineless cuck as his co host.
1 anarchronism 2016-11-01
Your assessment is fair. They're less hate-able than O&A and that can sometimes make for a less dramatic show, but I enjoy it.

It's better O&a haven't been good since the move to Sirius. They give off the xm vibe, like they actually care again
0 Sippycupofpee 2016-11-01
Its not better than anything. it is nothing but an experiment for management. a waste of money and time. sirius could put a better show together. They know these 2 duds will do whatever they say to do, and work for standard money, and will show up with bells on.
0 KnickedUp 2016-11-01
we dont need this much truth around here sir.
0 KNUCKKLEFUCKER 2016-11-01
It's not horrible. At times it's really funny but can go to extremely boring quickly depending who's on with them and what topics they bring up. I just love the fact that SXM threw Opie out of his morning slot and gave it to Jimmy & Sam.

The only reason people are fooling themselves on this Reddit into believing it is good is because they hate Opie and Anthony now. They are a still bit butt hurt since July of 2014. So to answer your question, the show isn't the groundbreaking great white hope it is made out to be. I mean it's better than Elliot in the Morning but that's not hard to do.
1 cakehornnigga 2016-11-01
What would be your main criticism of Sam & Jim? The unbearable douche chill moments are gone now that Opie is out. Jim is using all of his characters and just being goofy and weird again. Sam is good about cutting off shitty callers, and not just letting them babble like Opie did. Travis is a lot more involved, and everyone loves the Teft. They actually have somewhat of a buzz again because of th Nancy Grace video. Not really sure what you mean when you say "the show isn't the groundbreaking great white hope it is made out to be." Other than a handful of fanboys on this sub, the majority of feedback has been mixed. People are genuinely happy that Opie is gone, and the show is actually listenable again (besides the days that Jim is out and Sam is by himself).
3 Tell_Em_Fred 2016-11-01
MY point exactly. The love for Jim and Sam is connected to Opie hate. You can't point out that Jim and Sam is a "great/decent show" without mentioning that Opie isn't there. It's an O&A reddit straw man that state's "Everything in the world is great because Opie isn't there". When in reality it's not that great. As far as the show I'm Not a fan of the Teftisms. It's pretty weak. Hacky even. I like Jim, I like Sam, I like Anthony, I like Opie. The Jim and Sam show IMO is overrated by this sub for now.

it just bleeds from unfounded enthusiasm on sams over enunciating part, and jim thinking any hyper and boring low comedy voice or quip will be lapped up by the audience.
-1 buttholebrigade 2016-11-01
its everything i wanted. They fucking ramone'd Ken Bone.
-3 dakkar1 2016-11-01
not at all. sam is more hatable than ever. he cackles like an 18 year old girl in a morning zoo format at every fucking thing. jim seems much happier though.
3 Gronez_Bambaataa 2016-11-01
Sam is atrocious... He seems to be under the impression that he's a comedian now.
0 PhiWeaver 2016-11-01
True, it's not a great show at all, let's be honest... don't know why you're being downvoted.
