Embracing it is always better but in some cases that totally backfires. One friend i have all of a sudden was called "Fingers" by someone because he had big fingers. Im certain he didnt like it but he thought it would stick if he didnt act like he didnt care either way. 7 years later his nickname is still "Fingers".

That's true. Another method that can work is if you think of a nickname thats even worse to the person giving you the nickname. Opie did this but since he doesnt know how to give someone a nickname he nicknamed them all "haters".
