Maybe Opie's sense of humor is far superior to ours? Maybe we just don't get it?

Opie, stop using fake accounts!

In the year 2056, some of us will stop what we're doing, look up and go..."that was the bit"

By 2056 there will be no living proof that this sub existed

By 2056, the Philly Crew will outgrow their domain, and then stake claim to the remnants of old New York, bountiful with its bushels of Blueburries, and they will rename it... The Philippines.

Because that's wut we do 'round here.

We sniff his name.

And we will still be looking for Father Doris.

And a group of heathens will swear their life to The Royal Order of Water Buffaler.

And all our mudas will all be dead or sumptin!

Take us out pig

Nope.

It's the attitude of an 16 year old to be intentionally bad and then blame the audience for not finding them funny. Being funny means other people have to find you funny. In particular, funny people have to find you funny. There's no way around it. If you can't make an audience laugh then you're not funny.

Opie is not a naturally funny person. Even when he has funny ideas he can't articulate them in a funny way. He has no sense of humor. There's audio of him in studio with fantastic comedians and he's not laughing at their jokes. Whenever he tries to be funny it's always some pseudo-intellectual anti-comedy BS that nobody actually enjoys. "That's the bit" and "you don't get it" and cop-outs for bad humor.

i watched some andy kaufman videos on youtube and literally every comment could have been written by a more articulate Opie.

fuckin psuedo-intellectuals saying "that's the bit" could sum up every paragraph that said kaufman's autistic ass was ahead of his time.

No, he was before the time where you would be shit on for trying too hard to be new/creative. He ain't bad but it's not like it was the cornerstone of a thinking man's comedy

Yeah; no.

He's like Andy Kaufman, except he deserves to be full of tumors.

Maybe. Perhaps Harry Hater is really ahead of its time

No, because when you're so much smarter than him you can identify the precise cognitive failures and insecure defense mechanisms that lead him to act exactly how he does.

Maybe we should all rush out and fuck some women so we can finally get on opies level of dad humor.

What do you mean faggot?

Fucking females is for poofs.

HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON

THATS THE BIT! THATS THE BIT!

Don't be silly, the man's a doofus.

He needs to just take his FU money and walk away.

He knows comedy. He tells us.

Opie's problem is that he's a not-funny guy (obviously) who nevertheless thinks he can be funny and thus tries to be funny. He can conduct a a comic show brilliantly and play straight man, as he did for all those years with Anthony, but he should never try to participate on that level. Apart from the rare funny utterance he makes once a year, like Groundhog Day, any attempt to interact in a comic manner has doom written all over it.

He needs to work with Anthony again (and vice versa), because lightning is not going to strike twice for either of them.

"He can conduct a comic show brilliantly...."

Wow

Have you ever heard of The Opie & Anthony Show? I'd recommend it if you want to hear what I'm talking about.

Are you sure you've heard it??

Yes. I have. And I stand by what I said.

Please stand by it somewhere else.

Ooooooffffff

Lightning is gonna strike Anthony again and again until his rectum bleeds

Delusional

Expand, please. Why am I delusional, to you?

Opie never did a job on air that was more entertaining to anyone that something he could have done from behind the scenes or easily replaced by anyone else with a sense of humor, and there is no format in which Opie & Anthony could be even slightly commercially successful together again, to say they "need each other" as if it could still work, you should https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moSFlvxnbgk

It might not work commercially; you're probably right about that. My point is just that neither are as good working with anybody else as they were with one another.

And once again, in the context of a show with that structure, Opie is not supposed to be funny himself, or even particularly entertaining. It's like expecting a waiter in a restaurant to be a chef as well. He's the straight man (much like Sam Roberts is for Jim Norton now); he's there to facilitate the comic performances of others through interaction. Opie & Anthony were the best radio duo of this kind in history, and by evidence of Anthony's call into the Opie Radio show last Tuesday, some of that chemistry is still there.

For a sub nominally dedicated to the O&A show, this should be elementary stuff, yet no one here seems to comprehend it at all. Other words, if you don't get what I'm saying here, then what in hell were you people ever fans of??

"Not supposed to be funny" has always been such a dumb thing to say. They arent playing characters, it was always just guys having a conversation. Ant and Jim were always funny, and Opie just got in the way. And everyone comprehends it, they just think its stupid. Opie expects people to carry him and he gets pity laughs like he's a chick and he has nothing to offer and isnt on the level of people doing a funny radio show. Sam isnt super funny either but he at least understands what makes that type of show funny. Opie doesnt at all and is just a burden to entertainment.

And we will still be looking for Father Doris.
