Comedians Made O&A Great, Not O&A

27  2016-10-05 by NiggaInABuick

O&A was great because they were able to have a bunch of the greatest comedians of all time on the show during their prime (Louis, Burr, Patrice, Colin, Jefferies, etc.) Any idiot could have an amazing show w/ Norton bringing a bunch of world-class comedians on the show.

Both Opie and Anthony's individual shows will suck because they aren't very talented. Opie's a zero. Anthony's great at bouncing off other comedians, but he's only great if he has two or more top comedians in the room. Without that, he's mildly interesting.

The only chance for Jim & Sam's show is if they can somehow regularly get Colin, Bobby, and Vos + some new-school funny comedians (Joe List, Pete Davidson, etc.) and try to create the old O&A comic vibe.

O&A before Norton and before a cast of great comedians was a terrible show for morons. If you loved it, it's because you're as smart and funny as Opie himself.

It put the show over the top, but Jim and Ant made the show you dolt

Eh....the TACS show with Anthony and Jimmy fucking sucked.

Van Halen sucked when they had his kid play bass too, what's your point?

My point is you can't say it was "Jim and Ant" when they did shit together recently and it was godawful

It was them in O&A, not Jim and Ant on TACS. Wayne Gretzky never played football. It's not the same once you take them out of what they were great in.

Gotcha. So without all three of them they suck. Opie and Jim suck; Jim and Anthony suck. All three on their own suck

Opie, or the rotating 3rd mic of Patrice, Quinn, Burr, Louie, etc. Pretty much the same.

I agree. That's why I just can't figure out why Comedian Podcasts are so terrible. I wish they would stop talking about being funny and instead just focus on actually being funny

Exactly what a civilian would say.

or somebody who does not care to hear serious chitchat about humor.

I just can't figure out why Comedian Podcasts are so terrible.

Because they don't have a lot to say. Doing prepared stand-up material or going on a talk show once a week or so and riffing with other people is fine. But when comedians started thinking that every little thought and opinion they ever had needed to be broadcast to the world, then they lost a lot of what made them interesting in the first place.

I guess it's a natural result of filling a room with people of the same profession. You're going to get a lot of boring shop talk.

No i disagree o&a played a huge part in making the show great. Lets not forget that the show was already successful before jim norton and his comedian friends ever came on so to say that they have no talent is a bit ridiculous. Also guys like louis ck, jim norton, jim jefferies, bill burr and colin have all done other morning radio show countless times but none of those appearances are as memorable or as popular as the o&a ones

You obviously don't know what your talking about. They were great before norton and comedians even got there. If you hate them so much why are you on this sub Reddit?

yeah seriously that guys a fag. they were good then when it was just them

No, O&A played a part. Ant was hilarious, The Tony Danza Show bits are what got me hooked on O&A back in the day. I know we're all supposed to hate Opie now but some of his cringe stunts I legitimately found enjoyable, like the cake stomp, smashing Sandy Kane's guitar and giving out Erock's number on air, etc.

I agree, sometimes opie brings up a topic, or does something that makes Ant, Jimmy, and the other comedians that where there that day to riff off of. If opie knew his place he would the banter continue instead of taking a phone call, or saying something not funny.

"O&A before Norton and before a cast of great comedians was a terrible show for morons. If you loved it, it's because you're as smart and funny as Opie himself."

Do you know how shitty radio and internet media was back before Y2K?

Opie surrounded himself with comedians and you saw how that worked out...

Nah, they were funny without them. Albeit not always. Jim's characters were new at the time and proved hilarious. Back when we had the angry, unapologetic version of Jim, with his raspy voice and hate-filled rants. The bits of them fucking with the callers were also gold. I miss those days of O&A.

Those comedians go on all kinds of other shows. How many of those other shows have had such legendary appearances like this? Even Howard Stern didn't come close to having such great appearances by these comedians.

Nonsense. Anthony was better comedically than anyone comic on air. He really was a genius. Especially when he made full use of his freedom of speech, if you know what I mean.

ONand A were amazing by themselves during the WNEW a days before Jimmy was even hired. They used to do such good bits with Anthony's impressions and they had insane chemistry. Norton coming in sealed it and made it an unstoppable show until they got fired. The ten years on satellite were more comedian heavy but they got to where they were back on terrestrial by themselves. I love both WNEW and Satellite eras but you obviously didn't listen to them in the late 90's/early '00s.

If I was Opie, I'd find a couple good comedians in NYC and pay them out of my own pocket.

I know everybody hates Vic, but I'd rather listen to Vic and Opie then solo Opie.

Ant could be a funny motherfucker telling a story. Sadly that skill seems to have waned since TACS.

You can't sit there with a pencil in your ass like the rest of us and not think Ant pretending to be from McDonald's and firing that old guy wasn't greatness.

I think the greatest episode of O&A, to me, is the one where Opie isn't there (lol) and Colin is there and they eat the balls.

And it's just Colin and Vos just shitting on this terrible idea of ball eating (It was obviously Opie's idea) and everyone is laughing and I wish that could be every episode.

The only time Opie was ever funny was when he would soap up his tits and squeeze them together and make fart noises from the suction.

Jimmy and Ant could be brilliant together a lot of the time and the other comics would often add even more to that.

I think ona on their own is better than with Jim, the mofo always interrupting with his tranny non sense

Ant was better back then than any of the comics including Patrice. You're out of your mind.

Opie, or the rotating 3rd mic of Patrice, Quinn, Burr, Louie, etc. Pretty much the same.
