This has been happening for a while now. Its easy to spot if you pay attention because they come in droves and leave in droves and its usually over the weekend. This past weekend there were posts full of "lmao reddit losers, Opie wins again!" And then nothing. Yesterday Opie managed to make sounds in a microphone for a few hours and talked to his former coworker for a few minutes, so now his show is really good.

So, you listened to the entire Opie show yesterday. Opie wins again and you didn't even realize it.

Honest question. What do you like about opies show?

Opie's been a professional broadcaster for 25+ years. While almost everyone else has fallen off, only Stern, Opie, and Bennington are around/relevant. If you've ever been successful at something and took years to get to a high level, you respect the amount of work that goes into getting there.

Opie knows how to run a live show. Pacing, energy, bailing on failing bits and being honest they went shitty, not lingering too much to run over schedule so the show covers everything planned, digging into Sirius management, even running a board and probably how to keep advertisers happy w/o compromising the artistic integrity of the show. He also knows how to nurture talent and be patient enough with funny people on-air to let them bomb but get in some good ones eventually. Anthony, Jim, Rich Vos - Rich, to me, is radio gold because he's so bad/dumb.

The legendary shows with comics like Patrice, Jim, Rich, Colin, Bob Kelly, etc all in the same room wouldn't have been successful w/o Opie. Those guys would just meander. Opie would move the show along.

I thought the energy level of Opie's first show was so much higher than Jim/Sam's. Jim/Sam have a laid back, whatever attitude - which is fine, but not ideal for morning radio.

Jim/Sam brought in an amateur sound effects app that seriously lags and half works. Jim struggled to run the phone lines on his advice show and today he put the earpiece section of cell phone up to the mic today when on speakerphone. Jim books guests very much for his own personal pleasure - something he spoke about today. He realizes people see him booking guests so he can get the pictures. It's also obvious he books in hopes of other personal gains (transgenders, UFC, porn stars). Jim's also a bit of a queen with drama like with Doug Benson not inviting Jim to his podcast or the DL Hughley misunderstanding. All of these are unprofessional and are things I think Opie is better at.

I love Jim. I think he's the quickest mind on the radio, but his schtick needs to be wrangled sometimes, and that's what Opie did. Telling a terrible joke to trainwreck the show, Uncle Paul pedo jokes, answering a question obviously asked to a guest, and saying "Whatsat?" upon hearing "chip" are funny every now and then but can get old very fast. Most guests don't get the 'chip' part and so they just repeat after "whatsat?" and Jim then quietly repeats "whatsat" when the guest repeats "chip". Also - we get it, you like dick.

I think the Uncle Paul and trans jokes could probably push out advertisers. Remember, Jim's projects with such content have been passed over (Vice, animated series, etc).

I also think Opie is a better interviewer than Jim and Sam. Jim has his moments, but is proud to live in this bubble of not knowing a lot of pop culture.

I'm not an Opie fanboy - I just don't hate on somebody because my life sucks and/or I don't understand what it takes to be successful. I also like kicking the illiterate hive mind here. Why listen to/constantly comment on something you hate so much?
