Re-listening to old shows, I've noticed something: 100% of the laughs that come from something that Opie says comes from Instant Feedback lines or from something a listener posted on Twitter.

He's an unfunny hack that is incapable of having an original funny thought on his own.
Plus if he bombs, Opie can blame the unfunny line on someone else because he didn't think of it himself. I hope he kills himself.

I remember when they discussed that Steve Phillips guy cheating on his wife Opie read a very mediocre joke saying "he should have kept it in the family, like John Phillips (MacKenzie Phillips' incestuous father)."
Except, Opie, of course, didn't read it right; he said "like John...? Phillips...." and then gave the guy's twitter name followed by awkward silence as balloons fell from the ceiling to mark the 10,000th time he brought the show to a screeching halt.

Shaq balloons?

Yep. Jimmy and Anthony would be riffing away, dropping joke after joke after joke, barely leaving room to breathe between them, and eventually opie would chime in with an instant feedback line. Usually, he would give credit first: "Steve from bayshore says....". But sometimes, he would just deliver the line, and then, after laughs die down, he would reluctantly give credit.
On a couple occasions, I remember him trying to not give credit, and then people calling in and saying he had used their line. Once, he fessed up to it, but said that lots of people were feeding the same joke, so he just didn't think he needed to give credit to any one person. Yep.....just take credit yourself for something that must have been a pretty obvious joke.
He really is the worst. And it doesn't matter how far back you go....you won't find audio that redeems him. Go back too far, and you get to the clips that he readily admits are awful.

Have you ever listened to the "bombs and flubs" mixes on YouTube? Every time Opie bombs, he gets angry and has an excuse for all of them about why his joke didn't work (or he'd say "COME ON THAT'S FUNNY YOU JUST DON'T GET IT").
No, Opie. You're just an unfunny cunt.
16 PretzlKing 2016-09-24
Yes, I've heard the bombs and flubs shows. Opie's reactions have always been embarrassing. I cringed whenever anyone would even good naturedly start ribbing him, and he would warn, "EEEEASSSSSY!".
Anthony, Jim, and the staff have always had to deal with this insecure asshole. I can't imagine putting up with someone like that for a few weeks, let alone two decades.

Makes your hair fall off and wanna beat your girlfriend

This has been conclusively proven.
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
Hey Opie invented Jim and Anthony
5 PharoahFaucet 2016-09-24
At least Opie would give credit, Anthony would use the lines and take the credit.
8 fervt 2016-09-24
Does getting credit really matter? I just want to laugh not hear the show stop so @snowy_from_michigan can get a "who gives a shit, nothing's going to come from it anyway" plug.

Just an aside, during Greggshells when Ant goes to the first caller he goes "alright, SNOOOWAAAY FROM - Im just kiddin, whats up man?"
3 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
"hold on, hold on.... HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD OOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!"
"Well I think that bit's run out of steam. We gotta break"
18 Robert_Downey_Syndro 2016-09-24
The show had an official, "instant feedback" you could post on but they never really used it. If you wanted Ant to see it, you would post it to the O&A live room on Paltalk. Steve from Bayshore and Cigars and Scotch got lots of their jokes to the air. You could also listen to the show free by doing this. Opie took his jokes from Twitter submissions and always bombed.
9 FuckinHomerunChippah 2016-09-24
Who is more to blame for that, people on Twitter for being unfunny, or Opie for saying the lines, thinking they were funny?
26 Troll1987 2016-09-24
I'm working on a new theory that opie actually doesn't understand humour, much like a dog or autistic child.
4 rahtin 2016-09-24
Considering his two biggest fans are Stalker Patty and Bobo (well, before Bobo started partying with Ant) and neither of them have ever laughed at anything on the show, it makes perfect sense.
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
Remember when Norton stuck a finger in Patty's ass and almost made her cum? That's how I feel when Opie reads instant feedback or twitter lines: like Norton just stuck his wormy finger in my ass.
1 rahtin 2016-09-24
I thought it was Ron Jeremy that stuck it in her.
1 goarlorde 2016-09-24
No you're thinking of when she had to touch ron jeremys dick for u2 tickets.
1 PretzlKing 2016-09-24
Your theory has merit. Ironic, considering Opie considers himself a connoisseur of comedy.
7 CowsAreCurious 2016-09-24
Opie is to blame. He could've ignored it but he didn't. He thought it was funny and then he would say the joke and get crickets. Fuck him. So many times the show was brought to a screeching halt because of him ruining the flow with a bad joke from twitter.
2 Robert_Downey_Syndro 2016-09-24
Opie doesn't have comedic timing and he stammers too much when he reads. His forte was having fits and breaking shit.
3 karmacompanion 2016-09-24
And he is unable to remember complete sentences.
"Hahaha, Ryan from Cleveland writes, does Travis's mom ahhhh .... FUCK where did it go, hold on hold oh it fawking updated .... does she stick draino beads ... OH OH does she stick dreidel beads in her ass?"
3 FuckinHomerunChippah 2016-09-24
"...nuthin'? OH COME ON THAT WAS A GOOD LINE"
2 EYE8OPIE 2016-09-24
Back at WNEW, they had a picture in the WWF magazine at an event, I instant messaged them saying Opie had bitch tits in the pic and they read it on the air. I was way ahead of of time with the Opie hate.

Instant Feedback was used on WNEW.
13 VicDumb 2016-09-24
Or he blurts out a line by accident and it gets a laugh and says it 1 million times over and over and run it to the ground…
Four example, the Jordan K saga. By accident, he said sing it again so we can play it back nice. It got a minor laugh from Jimmy, and ever since that moment he said it at least 50 fucking times throughout the video.
I cringe my fucking cock off every time I listen to that shit
3 TheTigerDriver 2016-09-24
You're absolutely dead on with this one. The Jordan bits were my favorite for the longest time, but the more I listened, the more Opie's "play it back, nice" would drive me insane.
Link to the whole saga for those asking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdR_8TtZoPQ
2 2005chuy 2016-09-24
Less than a minute in and I'm already cringing at this Jordan guy. I'm not sure I can handle him and Opie without driving off the road.
1 FuckinHomerunChippah 2016-09-24
Got a link to that one?
8 rahtin 2016-09-24
Nope.
Opie came up with "I did this for you" when we discovered that the Hulkster did 9/11
That's why he repeats it 100 times every time the picture shows up and why it's not funny anymore.
5 MuleJuiceMcQuaid 2016-09-24
Shaq Balloon.
2 rahtin 2016-09-24
That wasn't even funny through the end of the bit

I take it you're new to listening, welcome aboard!
6 TakesTheWrongSideGuy 2016-09-24
Anthony was ripping jokes off from Paltalk too
6 Robert_Downey_Syndro 2016-09-24
He was good with giving credit most of the time, people in the chat room were happy he read it regardless.
1 GypsyDishwasher 2016-09-24
To be fair, Opie usually gave credit to to the people in Paltalk or instant feedback too. Though he was always super quick to thrown them under the bus whenever the line absolutely bombed.
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
Ever give a funny line in a chat room (or on here) and someone else posts something really stupid and unfunny but it gets all the attention? That's basically what Opie would do with picking lines.
5 Kurt_Love 2016-09-24
99% of the listener comments were fucking shit but they needed to show the twelve weirdos who stopped their lives entirely every day for the show they were part of something, mannnnnn.

I didn't ask.
5 liquidmachete 2016-09-24
Whenever Opie recognizes the reaction someone else's brilliant joke gets he exclaims "Thaaaaaahtss fawkin fuhhhhnyyy...." in a monotone awestruck voice as often as he just laughs at the joke. At a loss for words like he's been colorblind his whole life and suddenly he's not anymore.
Humor to him is as music to the deaf. The man is a buffoon.
2 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
"That's the line. There it is. That's the one."
5 Robert_Downey_Syndro 2016-09-24
Steve From Bayshore was the Ant's nazi version of, "Jackie the Jokeman" in the PalTalk days. I'm surprised he's never showed up on TACS. Did he have a fall out with Anthony too, or did he just get a job?
5 CIAshill18081990 2016-09-24
He perished due to AIDS
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
Impossibru, I just saw him on the Twitter.
4 Mandrakes_Gammy_Leg 2016-09-24
It's true. Bobo has better comedic chops.
3 jokopolis 2016-09-24
Well yeah he is gregg hughes the actor that's plays opie on the opie and anthony show, of course it's scripted Cringe
2 stinksskc 2016-09-24
Yeah no shit. You'll also notice him fake laughing along with Jimmy and ant. Most of the time he has no idea what they're talking about that's why he wanted ant gone so bad. He felt left out.
2 RoosterBrains 2016-09-24
It's almost like he's always sucked
2 matterson6 2016-09-24
Ok, so when Opie was acting like an asshole he was fucking hilarious. -Steve the Whistler -Joe Piscopo -Suck Cock for K-Rock He used to be funny. The problem is the asshole Opie died a long time ago.
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
I'll give you that when he was an asshole he did a good job, usually.

The one time he was truly funny was when he had carte Blanche to bash on Anthony during the Niccolini saga. He was actually brilliant digging into Anthony.
1 ps748 2016-09-24
this is why opie has nothing of value to add whenever he is stripped of his feed. the photo at the top of the page illustrates this perfectly: opie on letterman with an unnecessarily animated laugh at a joke anthony delivers, trying to save face despite having fucking 0 to say
1 georgie_best 2016-09-24
Aren't you a quick one
1 SevenDeviations 2016-09-24
Isn't this assuming that Opie was supposed to be funny??? He was never supposed to be that..
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
In case you're wondering why nobody replied it's because we know you'd go in to the stupid "steering the ship" analogy which Ant and Jim used to make Opie feel better and not cause a collapse of the show. Greggshells. There's your fucking captain of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
1 ChippusMaximus 2016-09-24
Also 98% of those laughs are from Opie laughing at an unfunny instant feedback. You can always tell when Ant gives a Greggshells laugh to keep the tension down.
