I listen to just a tasteeee of lots of stuff mostly reggae and punk rock and hip hop.
Bad Brains, Minor Threat, JFA, The Germs, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Operation Ivy, Black Flag, Burning Spear, Culture, Bushman, Toots and the Maytals, the Specials, Steel Pulse, Buju Blanton, Sizzla, Big L, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, MF Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, Wu-Tang Clan, the Roots, Mos Def, Erykah Badu
Just about anything Jack White is involved with, Daniel Johnston, Captain Beefheart, Mimicking Birds, The Clash, Vampire Weekend, QOTSA, and Zeppelin, Floyd, Beach Boys I have a big appreciation for but have played them out.
The only Beefheart record I like was their first one, which is one of my favorite albums ever. But I can't get into anything else, so I guess I'm not really a Beefheart fan.
He's been the soundtrack to most of my psychedelic experiences so maybe that's why I'm partial. I might be imagining it but I hear his influence everywhere. The Dead Weather have a very Beefheart feel or even like Paul Simon's song So Beautiful or So What sounds like Beefheart to me.
Yeah but I'm kind of souring on them a little. Not a lot of depth to their catalogue IMO, and I think their latest record sounds almost exactly like Mutilator before it. Like play the first few songs on each album simultaneously and they're pretty fucking close structure-wise.
I'll have to give it another listen, I've only gone through it once on youtube after it was first released. Any other similar bands you've discovered recently?
Acid Bath (and any other Dax Riggs related band), Fireball Ministry, Alice in Chains, Monster Magnet, Alabama Thunderpussy, Down, Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Kyuss
Those Poor Bastards, Hank Williams III, Johnny Cash, Murder By Death, The Builders & The Butchers, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
I'm autistic and tried to copy and paste my giant list of bands I have in alphabetical order that I like. It's avant garde, extreme metal, jazz and all kinds of nonsense that is too garish for even John Zorn's label. I'm a faggot.
I'm in a hardcore band but don't listen to a lot of similar music cos it's all the fucking same. I like At The Drive In and the more progressive style shit though. I listen to a lot of hip hop and blues-driven, dive-bar style garage rock too, although I like stuff from most genres.
TMV is awesome (even better than ATDI, at least on Deloused and Francis The Mute) but I never tell people I like them because TMV fans are, by and large, a bunch of fags
True, a pretentious bunch they are. If u really like whatever weird ass projects Omar and Cedric are currently doing, more power to ya. It just aint me. Like you, I liked almost all their albums up to like the last two.
I just watched Vince Staples on the HBO show Any Given Wednesday and boy was he a nervous Nelly. He was doing a foot wiggle thing endlessly during the interview.
I've always been strangely into that song. If it wasn't mixed like a 32kbps Limewire track with MIDI instrumentation, it would actually make a decent prog rock-ish song.
I've been listening to a lot of 80s shit lately. George Michael, Elton John, Genesis, shit like that. I usually like rap songs where I find out the rapper was killed for making the song. OG ManMan had one out recently, Lil Jojo is another one.
Edit: here's some songs that may have contributed to these rappers deaths -
I'm 47. Played, Recorded & toured all thru the late 80's to early 2000. My two favorite bands are The Rolling Stones (67 to 74 era), & The Melvins. I guees if I had to label what music I'm into it would be punk/hardcore. I like some metal. Hate most 90's era alternative/grunge. Was never into STP, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. .(just not my thing). I hate Nu Metal. I love The Bad Brains, Angry Samoans, OFF! Etc. EYEHATEGOD, Fantomas, Joy Division, Can..
Other faves off the top of my head...AC/DC, (early) Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, The Original Alice Cooper Band(69-73), (early) Kiss, The Kinks, Butthole Surfers, Motorhead, etc...
I grew up in the Virginia Hardcore Punk scene and was close with Dave and some of the other guys from GWAR. I lived in Austin, TX for 17 years and now back in Virginia. I'm a failed musician but never played other people's music for a living like Captain Faggot Brother Joe. I toured the states and Canada in a van that smelled like ass, but did it playing my own horrible noise.
More info than you asked for, I know novody gives a shit but, yeah that's the kind of faggot I am.
it sounds muddy and shitty. We were called The Nipple 5.. our schtick was to play low fi metal while our lead singer would parody cheesy metal vocals. He even did the David Lee Roth roundhouse kicks and would dress the part...as gay as it sounds, it worked and we had a following during or short span of just under a year.
TL,DR : Don't worry about it. It's the adderal talking.
I love how a quarter of this thread dove right in with King Gizzard.
I don't think they're on Burger Records these days. That label went terrible REAL QUICK.
EDIT: Surprised to see so much hip-hop in the responses. I always assumed you were all a bunch of old white guys who only listened to classic rock. Seeing "Schoolboy Q" on the O&A sub was like worlds colliding.
I interviewed Danny Brown at an old magazine I used to work for and he was the biggest dick ever. Only gave one word answers or just mumbled and said "I dunno bruh"
I've been saying racial epithets on this sub ever since.
Yeah, im really into Ab-Soul too so that track was crazy good.
I like the stuff ive been hearing from Earl, him and Knxwledge have been working together alot and released some songs/snippets. IDLSIDGO was good but didn't have the massive replay effect other Earl shit had.
Yeah but I'm kind of souring on them a little. Not a lot of depth to their catalogue IMO, and I think their latest record sounds almost exactly like Mutilator before it. Like play the first few songs on each album simultaneously and they're pretty fucking close structure-wise.

Metal like black dahlia murder, Within the Ruins and Necrophagist.
Prog Rock/jazz/experimental like Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Soft Machine, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Gentle Giant, Goblin and King Crimson.
