I think Opie might be fine if Jimmy did a morning show and he did an afternoon one or something like that. He was trying to maneuver into a similar situation with Ant. That's way more likely than them continuing together I think.

He only did that, because he couldn't fire Anthony, as they were equal partners, and he's a fucking coward, so he tried to run away by splitting the show.
He IS Jim's boss.
Here's how I think it will play out:
October first, some bland comic will be in Jimmy's seat, and Opie won't say a word about Jim being gone for a couple of weeks, and then will admit "We moved on" when someone asks. And that will be the last time Opie mentions him.
I have no doubt Greg and his boss have already agreed to not offer a renewal to Jim, for anything. Jim may or may not have his show on a seperate contract from his Gregshell's contract.
Jim will hint at the reality for a couple of weeks, and then never speak of it again. Because, you know, he's also a coward, and never speaks badly of anyone. He'll even twist it around and say things like "You know, I kind of know where he was coming from, I was to blame, too" because Jim LOVES to put himself down, because it's so sexy to the ladies. (Someone told Jim at some point in his development that showing how emotional and needy and weak you are is somehow attractive to women.)
We'll know exactly what happened because Anthont's informant in the office will feed him everything, and there will be another epic Gregshell's show on his podcast - without Jim.
And that will be the final nail in the Opie And Anthony saga. From that point on, it's just 3 dudes who used to be on the radio. stirs ice in drink Radio's a rough gig. Takes a deep gulp

The main downside to O minus J is that I'm sure I'll still listen when Bobby, Vos etc come on. There actually have been some decent shows when funny comics come in and both Jimmy and Ant were out.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there might be a reason for them to stay away from the opie show, but I don't have much hope for it. It would probably have to be opie's decision with an idea for an even more different direction to whatever melquetoast music-and-reality-TV-based garbage he ends up spewing out.
