They've not even hinted at contract talks in the last few weeks i reckon its done and Jimmy is staying but Opie is going to afternoons Jimmy in mornings. Sam is playing hard to get.
That would mean Opie has to admit that a) there's a market for a Jim & Sam show, and b) Jim & Sam is a better morning show than OpieRadio w/ Jim Norton.
Essentially it means Opie would be be bowing out gracefully and letting Sam take his place, while he cobbles together an afternoon show with whatever C-list comic can make it into the studio.
Not to mention that guests do morning radio because they're on a press junket and it's a quick 10 minute stop into another studio to promote their project. You rarely hear of big guests on an afternoon show, probably because they're getting ready to appear on whatever late night talk show they're scheduled for, which usually shoots around 5 PM. Why do you think Opie's "surprise afternoon shows" have featured Roland and The Mad Cuban?
Reading from this less than reliable source it says their contracts weren't resolved on Wednesday, Sept 20, 2010. But there was a deadline by the Friday.
With this info I'd expect a deadline by Friday or early next week. I'd be surprised if they would allow a 1 day turnover to October 1st.
Norton really screwed up if he did not negotiate a huge bump in pay when Anthony left and management didnt know how to proceed. If he just played along with the "just happy to be here " and hoped he could make a big adjustment at the next cycle he lost bigtime because the show is unlistenable now and he lost all his leverage.
I wish they would take what that pay Opie and Jimmy together, cut it in half and say Jimmy gets half because he is an equal partner now, take it or leave it.
I am hoping they do not renew contracts at all and Sirius just tell tits to go jump in a lake but I hope to see some Lonely Opster posts if jimmy leaves.
