Vice Principles

The first episode or 2 I thought it wasn't gonna be that good and it just felt like a weird alternative reality of Eastbound and Down, but as the show went on it got better and better and I fucking loved it. The best part of the show actually wasn't Danny Mcbride and it turned out being Walton Goggins who is emerging as a comedy superstar. Did anyone else like the show? Where we at with the Danny Mcbride?

I'm all in with the Danny motherfuckin Mcbride

Goggins steals the show and it is definitely more focused than Eastbound was. I personally enjoy it more, after the first 4 episodes or so it really gets good. And again Goggins is the man.

Couldn't agree with you more. Goggins steals the show. Between Hateful 8 and now this show- that dude had stepped up as one of My favorite actors. It actually reminds me of John C Reilly who started his career as a serious actor (and absolutely still has that in him) but is now also a comedy superstar

It's not Eastdown, but it's still pretty motherfucking good. He's probably the only one trick pony that I hope stays a one trick pony. And showing high school girls getting banged on a field trip...? Well done HBO, well done.

The ending to that finale was some dark shit

I'll have to admit, I did not see that coming. No spoilers, but I thought she was just going to show back up or pull a slick move and get them both fired. I was like, oh, there's 1 minute left, this can't end on a happy note right? Then, oh shit son.

One of the cringiest dark comedies I've ever seen. There's a few moments where i had to pause to deal with the cringe, but I loved every minute of it. Most of that comes from McBride, who plays the completely unaware asshole that everyone hates. On the other hand, Goggins is a perfect effeminate sociopath. For a reality-based comedy show, it's extremely over the top, and the finale was a huge "holy fucking shit" moment.

The acid trip at homecoming and Belinda getting wasted were some of my favorite TV moments this year.

Yeah, it really is good. I like how they tied in the drum line and pep rally type music with the modern music. I also like that there are teens and kids in it, but it doesn't get caught up in giving a shit about them, they are just props for jokes. The staff all are the real teenagers (much like in real life) and even though they constantly say things that would get you immediately fired, at least they didn't make the staff boring cardboard cutouts like most shows.

I watched the two first episodes before I dropped it. Might pick it up now though.

Yeah do it, I swear it gets much better

Pick it back up by the 2-3rd episode, there are quite a few cringe / laugh out loud moments that make it worth it.

It definitely started out slow but each episode keeps getting better.

I only knew Goggins from Justified, which is a show that looked super lame and corny, but I enjoyed the shit out of it. I didn't care for him at the beginning of the series, but he turned out to be a good actor IMO.

He's fucking amazing in Hateful 8, if you haven't seen it. He steals the whole movie.

Yea I thought he did fine in Hateful 8... he might have been the only bright spot in that boring ass movie. I know I sat and watched the whole thing, and I couldn't tell you anything that happened other than Samuel L telling a long story about making a guy suck his dick.

I hated it the first time I watched it, I re-watched it with someone else who wanted to see it and liked it slightly better. I was annoyed he touted the 70mm cameras / film so much, and then there were only a few outdoor scenes that made use of them. It did give the cabin an interesting wide view, but I was expecting an actual dynamic Western (Kill Bill style) and got Reservoir Dogs in a cabin instead of a warehouse. It wasn't terrible, but it was really cartoonish and long in spots where it didn't need to be.

I remember thinking the movie looked alright, but I just wasn't interested in most of the characters. Maybe Tarantino's dialogue style has gotten old for me, I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I just couldn't get into it.

I see what you mean, yeah, I felt most of the talent, (like Bruce Dern), was wasted with not much dialogue or interaction with the other characters.

Nowhere near as funny as Eastbound and Down

With that said, I just watched the episode where Walton Goggins has to watch Belinda Brown's kids on Teacher Work Day. Funniest ep yet. I'm hopeful.

Those kids are gold, I hope they come back next season. It's definitely not as funny as Eastbound and Down, it's got a more complex and focused narrative, and great jokes, but Kenny Powers has said some of the funniest shit I've seen on TV.

I fucking loved that show. It's also just really refreshing to have a show about the South that, you know, actually doesn't hate everyone in the south. McBride and that guy he collaborates with are really fucking good.
