Caught this gem today in the truck. Patrice, Jim and Tits are talking about the Madoff scandal and Opie says he wants to be someone cooler so Jim calls him Chip. This would be around a year before Chip makes his first appearance on the show and we know it was a character he'd do around his gf for awhile before finally sharing him on radio.
Are you sure Jim hadn't done his chip character yet? I thought he was doing that almost right away, but I'm probably wrong. Why does Opie say "I get it" after jim says he can be chip?
I couldn't come up with a link, but I'm pretty sure I heard Jim refer to someone as Chip arbitrarily before the chracter existed. It's just a funny name.
Then again, I don't have a date for when I heard it, so maybe he already had the character here.
This has been found and discussed before. I truly don't believe that Chip is based on Opie at all. Chip is a pure product of the Nortonian cortex, but since Chip's concept is being a profoundly unfunny douchebag, he happens to be a lot like Opie.
More than likely, "Chip" was already part of the silly name catalog that Jimmy had at the ready before he became a character.
Nice necklace there, faggot. And it's not like they took him out of the studio one day and had him take that picture... you know it was probably planned days in advance and he deliberately chose to style his hair like that and wear that shit around his neck.
