If you're getting engine lights. Buy this for $12 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00T5G53ZM?psc=1 (or go to AutoZone or something but that's a pain in the ass) get "Torque Pro" in the play store for $5, get the engine codes. Google those codes, then go fuck your mother.

don't, just go to autozone, they will scan it for you and print out your codes + what they mean. For free. (only good for post '95 cars that have check engine light on).

You can rent a smoker I believe from auto places, I thought there was a leak in the turbo in my car and watched a video where they used one to find leaks. (Edit: now that I think of it, why the fuck would they use a smoker with a radiator, its a fucking liquid. I wouldn't trust a word out of my whore mouth) The shop was going to charge $900 to fix everything, but I "Guuugled it" watched videos and used the engine codes.
I'm not good with cars at all, but if you aren't some slack jawed retard I'm sure you can do it. It's not like your car is going to have a problem a million other haven't.
Oh and don't do anything electrical without unplugging a cable on your battery, that's a sure way to really fuck up computers and fuses or modules.
One more thing, sorry I just got through a nightmare last week with my car, alldata.com is like $25 bucks a month, it's like a Chilton's guide, it's a very very detailed service manual with videos and all kinds of shit. Idk if your working on like a 96 ford Taurus or a 2015 Audi, but if it's the latter and you don't want to royally fuck things up it may be worth it. Even when you read forums or watch YouTube, you might have to take a little from one part or another to find out whats going on.

I'm not trying to win reddit points with a dismissive sentence like that (but it's true) so I'll write more to make it unpalatable to the upvote.
Now I skimmed through it more though. You can't work on new cars for the most part. They make doing things very annoying but some cars have always been like that.
