Opie's role is to keep the 'balance' of the show, and to act as the sounding board for other hosts and guests. I find most of your critiques of him illogical and misguided.

And second of all I'm not saying you ONLY need humor for a radio show to be successful, but when you have a guy who ruins almost every single bit by spamming the soundboard, or making unfunny remarks or being overly sensitive, not liking any of his co-host's characters and shit like that, you gotta start questioning if he's not the problem. He might be talented off air, but on air Opie fucking stinks. Deal with it dude.
Why are you defending all the worst parts of the show like the corny bits, the timed segments, teasing, everything they later jocktobered themselves with. Cutting people off, going to calls. Yeah, Opie was the "company minded guy" which means the boring structure crazed guy who kills comedy, he wasn't entertaining. How many times did we miss out on more Patrice comedy because Opie cut it off for Snowaaaaaaaaaaay? I can see your point that Opie staying in on weekends and practicing hitting music at exactly 5 minutes past the hour or whatever helped their show gain professional steam. Creatively, he added all the worst shit that you look back on and just shake your head over. All throughout the show's past. Everytime, he's always the annoying weird guy. I actually started to like and defend him more towards the end of O&A because he wasn't so terrible at random small talk with Ant on air daily. I enjoyed the minor banter more than most of the corny "classic" bits like dumping shit on bitches in cans but we can only hear them yell "What the F!" over it and can't see it. Haha, crazy! HA! HA! NOI! SES!
Hey, that's not my decision buddy. I'm not the boss of the Opie Channel. All I know as a consumer is I've found Opie unlistenable for 17/20 years O&A were together. I genuinely didn't mind him at all towards the end because he seemed like a weathered idiot who at least had been beaten into an understanding of how to not be an all-out ass at every moment. He was peer pressured into being inoffensive. He's never been able to deliver the content, he just tries to find random human crutches he can put on his show and then get feedback on. If the feedback is good he pushes it hard for a while and takes credit for it. He never delivers anything on his own. Giving him credit for being the producer board op guy is exactly what he wants, I'm not even sure if he did that properly in the end. sniff
Working hard on O&A while Ant slacked served Opie's best interest, he was riding Ant's comedic coattails and basically served as Anthony's manager, or personal fucking assistant, working on the paperwork, being a useful idiot and crossing all the T's, dotting the I's, because he delivered "structure." That was his excuse for having a job, and when your talented host Anthony is a slacker fuck, Opie's management skills ARE necessary. Doesn't mean he needs a mic. He was always so fucking stupid. He slowed down some topics far too much to serve the lowest common denominator. Hitting to music, injecting sounds, hacky catchphrases, repeating, interrupting.
Opie's job does serve a purpose, but he does it poorly and to the detriment of the more important roles on the show. Ant, Jim, and the regular comics were good enough to work around him, and sometimes at his expense, but not with him. Whenever stupid demanded something was done on his terms, the show came to a stop. But again, the rest were good enough to detour around him and get going again. They weren't perfect and would need reeling in sometimes, but Sam, maybe even Erock, would have been better at deciding when to do that.
The sniff is just a catchall for what makes Opie bad. If that was the worst he did it would be fine.

So, Opie’s a bland shithead. Fine. That would be acceptable, but he won’t just do his job. Nope, Opie has to contribute! He is a control freak.
