I've worked a lot of shit jobs over the years, with total fuckin' idiots. I'm honestly trying to think of an Opie-level candidate. I've worked with thin-skinned pussies, and morons, and assholes who made assistant-manager who had to wield their power around like a trophy. Never someone who fit the Opie criteria though. I know he's a physicist and not a biologist, but his "mushrooms cause brain damage" stance is legitimately ill informed. If you want to say something negative about mushroom use, there are more accurate things you could come up with than that.

To his credit—and bear in mind I think Kaku is an annoying kook—he wasn't really saying that mushrooms cause brain damage, just that he doesn't want to take anything that alters the way his brain works. His argument is that as a physicist he relies on his brain to perceive reality as accurately as possible, and doesn't want to take something that impairs his thinking.

And before someone goes all Joe Rogan on me, mushrooms DO impair your thinking. That isn't to say they can't inspire creative thinking or insights, but functioning is still impaired in many areas.

I'm trying to think of a musician, like maybe a vastly overrated songwriter or somebody with poor chops on their instrument of choice, but I'm drawing a blank. Ringo Starr was the weakest songwriter in the Beatles and a technically unimpressive drummer, but it's not as if he ever did something so awful it made the Beatles completely unlistenable (that would be the Opie equivalent).

My god, he really is worse than one of those bumbling news people. All the clips they picked on over the years. Imagine Opie trying to quick-read a story. When they give a kid in the "newsroom" 15 seconds to deliver 2 lines about something mundane... "There's a new farmer's market in Trumansburg... Locals seem to be embracing the idea, so the city council is looking for expansion"
