The drug cost something like 7$ and he bumped the price to nearly 800$.

Only the insurance companies pay that. Anyone without insurance or on Medicaid gets it for nothing. The drug is also 70 years old and no longer recommended as effective for new strains of the parasite. The price hike is paying for R&D on a replacement which nobody else would fund.

This is a loophole that he exploited to fund a drug nobody else would.

The reason we have new effective MS drugs is because people realized they can make money selling Ms drugs. There was a shitty old drug for MS losing money so a company jacked up the price and then a bunch of chemists and pharma companies said "holy shit, look at the profit this company is making on this 40 year old drug, I can make a better drug than that." and then a whole slew of new MS drugs came about.
