He's definitely good at it though he used to sabotage himself a lot when he would spend half the interview asking his guest how much money they make and how big their penis was.

Bradley Cooper was the only guy I've ever really seen that was able to hold his own with Howard and deflect whenever he didn't want to talk about something.

If Howard isn't interviewing someone he isn't much different than Opie besides the fact that Stern doesn't have absolutely shit tier hangers-on like Vic Henley and Sherrod in studio. If it's just another ordinary day I hope you enjoy 3 and a half hours of chatting about reality TV and talent/singing shows, because it's the only interest both of those old ladies have anymore.

The edge Howard has on Opie is that he has Fred and Benji writing jokes for him so that he can come off as funny and witty.

Oddly enough, I think Fred is the one guy on that show that the b-b-b-boys didn't bash. Opie even said he's talked with Fred and he's nothing but a nice guy.

Stern is way better than Opie Radio, but while trying to listen to him again, I just remember how much of a phony piece of shit he is, and it ruins it for me. That and the bits they done since Artie's been fired has been atrocious.

I also think that Opie is a piece of shit in all senses.

I think its bad the way it was dealt with, with no closure between the two of them, but at the same time I can't blame Howard at all for not wanting Artie in his life anymore. Artie was a walking train wreck and he was for YEARS. Artie goes into detail in his second book about how many chances he got with Howard and the show. But at the same time, the show humoring his addictions encouraged Artie to continue them. If Artie stayed on the show he probably would have relapsed and might have died. Then we'd all be pissed at Howard for enabling Artie for the sake of his show.

Hell, that might be how things end for Artie anyway. I hope not. But when I listen to the podcast at least the guy sounds somewhat happy and at peace. I'm sure he'd love one last sit down with his hero and idol to say good bye but that's probably not going to want to happen. Maybe its too hard for Howard and he doesn't think he'd be able to be honest with Artie.

I agree. I think at some point Howard saw the fork in the road and couldn't keep enabling Artie, especially after the suicide attempt. He clearly cared for the guy. Artie has said the fact that he never got closure bothers him but life's not a movie.

Yeah the last couple of months I've been digging through tons of old Youtube clips. I miss Howard.

There's some really crazy Artie shit, where he went after people physically or just brutally verbally while he was in withdrawl or fucked up. There's one where he goes after Lisa G and it's fucking brutal, Id never heard any of it.

I went through "by characters" and would find everything, I did Eric the Midget (god I loved him), Beetlejuice, etc. Jesus, did you know one of the Jesus Twins went crazy and got shot in a fucking police standoff outside his house?? He basically committed 'suicide by cop.' I never knew that. Those guys were legit crazy.

The best one is when Artie nearly dies laughing at Mike for going to Disneyland when it was gay week.

One thing you're not taking into consideration is how many actual comedian bros Artie had to pass over to make room for these sideshow freaks at his shows. They jumped the queue, and other comedians resented them for it, and probably gave Artie the stink eye over it. Artie went out on a bit of a limb for these non-dues-paying retards, and look at the thanks he got.

Artie could have literally shit on those two and been justified, imo.

94-96 and 06-07 are great stern years, you can't go wrong even with full shows. Late 90s got more shock jocky with bits just for his shitty tv show, mid 00s was more political with lots of repetitive censorship rants, then later Artie years got shitty too, he was out of control and full of himself, Artie is best when he's self deprecating. Post Artie stinks except for bits or interviews here and there.

I check in with Stern once in awhile hoping it will be excellent like back in the day but fuck is it boring

My favorite Howard stuff has always been when Artie railroaded a subject and just started telling a story from his past, usually involving him getting into trouble and nearly destroying his career.

His story about losing $15,000 in Vegas on Holyfield/Tyson, going on a cocaine binge and getting fired from Mad TV in a week is probably the best bit I've ever heard on the show.

I've heard that one before, I still think Artie sucker punching his manager and getting chased by the LAPD through backyards is the best I've ever heard.

I always say that if you fast forward through celebrity interviews and news it's a pretty entertaining two hour podcast

Anything from 06-09 is absolute gold. I've watched hundreds of hours of HTV episodes from that period and they're nearly all great.
