Rommel was an overrated hack, he was fighting a British force Churchhill denuded by sending most of Wavells tanks to Greece to get shot to shit by Germans and Italians, the adventure ended with another Dunkirk like retreat to Crete.
Should have went with "Fast" Hienz Guderian, or even Giorgy Zhukov.
Rommel gets praise mainly for his humane treatment of POWs which became part of the greater myth that he was this apolitical military genius who ably fought for the wrong side but quietly hated Nazism (which is disputed).
He didn't exactly have the resources he needed either. The Italians were causing trouble for Hitler. The British navy was shitting up the works in the Med.
I sympathize with Rommel, but he gets too much credit, he had little real impact on the war as a whole.
