If Sam had stayed with the show, would O&J have been received better?

When O&J first started, we all know Sam and Jim were just starting to get some great chemistry going (mostly because Sam can work Jim's characters very well), and speculation was Opie realised this and was quick to give him his own Show.
Do you think if Sam had stayed as 3rd Mic, it would have made the show better, and less people would have shit on it and stopped listening (putting the Opie hate aside for now).....

As much as his voice, face, hobbies and eating habits repel me, Sam is a shit stirring good egg who has great chemistry with norton. So, yes.

Exactly this. My favorite "bit" Sam does is pushing Greggshells to the edge with sarcastic questions and leading Opie into retarded thoughts.

Yes... the same way adding pine scent to VX gas makes it more palatable

Ok, il tell you a story.. Before mgmt were famous and going under the name the management.. A friend of mine was hanging around town late at night when 2 guys looking out of place walked by him. He asked them if they wanted to go smoke some weed in the park, they did.. He asked them who they were and they said they were a band called the management and they had just played a small club.. They smoked, got high and parted ways.. Less than 6 months later mgmt were the biggest thing on the planet

No, I think there was some tension with Sam and Opie. The Stangels are not wholly responsible for exiling monkey boy to nights.

It would of been a far far better show than Opie with Vic/Sherrod/chris and Jim

My theory is that Sam's cynicism was the catalyst for a majority of the great moments over the last few years of the O&A show. When O&A ended and their cynical fan base (us) turned on them, Sam realized that O&A had created monsters. When given his own show, Sam carefully decided to be less cynical and develop a new fan base vs. catering to the "pests". While this was probably the correct career move, it was dissapointing. Sam as the sarcastic third mic, openly mocking the others, brings a level of self-reflection which the O&J show desperately needs.

I don't know about third Mic but he definitely made the show better in his previous role. Can't listen to him solo at all though.

Yeah. They'd spend more time talking about the Morning Mashup and music for 20-something girls and rasslin.
