If Jimmy were to join Anthony *and* get rid of the awful format, restoring it to a radio show w/ cameras..

Would Anthony actually be funny again? Would the show work?

Anthony will never be funny as long as he feels like he's in the host role.
He was funny on O&A because he was like the kid in the back of the class that acted like he didn't really want to be there.

See I don't think that's true. Ant and Jimmy had some incredible Nopie shows where, technically, Ant was the host. Without a rigid format, they were just able to bullshit and crack jokes.

Well he was always technically a host, but he was working on a bigger companier dime, and be cynical and act like he didnt give a shit. Now that its at his house he has to be all fake-laughy and chummy and its the exact opposite of what made him funny. He is nice to callers of TACS for fuck sake. Its really not an element he can be funny in, that "kid in the back of the class" analogy is perfect. Now he's the substitute teacher that has to keep everything in line.

I don't know if that's an apples to apples comparison.
He really wasn't the host in the sense that the weight of the show was on him all the time. I'm not saying they could never function on the air without Opie. They had the staff handing them stories and the structure was well in place already on those days.

You make a good point. Even if they made the show more of a "hang," you still have incompetent KtC running shit.

I see this as the main problem. I doubt Ant will ditch his shit crew to accommodate Jimmy. I know he wants to pay his pos "family" to do nothing and be yes men but it just won't work with another big star on board

Exactly. Neither Anthony or Jim are good at the host roll.

Jimmy would be committing career suicide to join Anthony at this stage of his life. He is making money right now and wants to keep it that way.

He should really change the studio so the cameras are in the corner at an angle, and everyone sits at a round table. Not a public access TV show. Even webcams in a room of guys talking into mics with each other would make for a more comfortable environment than the weirdly staged INFOWARS green screen thing they do now.

Might as well just record a poker game.

I think it would be most funny if they took their show on the road. You know how much those two love travel & foreign cultures. Id suggest they start out with Syria. Then maybe Iraq. I hear the Congo has an up and coming audience. It would be radio gold.

those are actually pretty dangerous places right now

No. It's over. Dead. Done. Never again. We cannot go back. In the crazy chance that a reunion does happen, which it never will, it won't be like the old show. They're all too far gone to get that magic back.

why would Jimmy ever committ to Ant full time, when he can just go back a few times per year to pay his respects and keep his own train rolling.

Maybe doing O&V every day is eating as his soul enough to make him do it?
In theory, TACS could increase the subscription rate and draw in new listeners to carve out a comparable salary for Jimmy. Most of this sub wouldn't subscribe, but I bet a decent # of people would.

Jimmy has literally nothing to gain by aligning himself with Anthony in a professional sense.
1 PassProtect15 2016-08-04
The show is behind a paywall with a limited subscriber base. Would doing a show with Anthony really hurt him professionally?
1 KnickedUp 2016-08-04
Yes, he can fill his weekdays with much more lucrative jobs. The Anthony Cumia network couldnt even keep Legion of Skanks. It's just not on anyone's radar.

The real question is: will Opie force Jim out in October or not?
If he's forced out, he'll either do another, smaller profile show on Sirius if he's able to. If he's not able to, he'll almost definitely do something with Anthony.
Jimmy likes radio too much to abandon it completely. He's gotta have a platform for his daily opinions. It's ritualistic for him, like the 12 step program, or edging for 5 hours a day.

I still wouldn't subscribe.

I hope so. Both shows are garbage currently and I think Ant and Jim need each other.
