Official O&A Sub Movie Recommendation List
3 2016-07-28 by Anarchorenegade
I've been sitting around watching bored this summer just watching movies and need some recommendations.
Just watched Miles Ahead today. It was a decent flick. Plot wasn't that great and script was a bit of a mess, but Don Chedle was incredible as Miles Davis and it kept me entertained. Not a must see, but worth watching if you like music biopic's.

If you're after a light-hearted romp then try A Serbian Film.

I'm glad they're finally bringing the franchise back to the real spirit of the series.

Check out all 3 of Jeremy Saulnier's movies. Murder Party, Blue Ruin, and Green Room. Murder Party is a horror comedy, Blue Ruin is a revenge flick, and Green Room is about a couple punk rockers fighting off a bunch of skin heads after playing a gig that goes bad. They're great.

tss Blue Ruin, Greem Room, these films are so coloured i'd expect them to swinging from trees in the south or sumptin

I'm all over with these. From older, to foreign and so on.
Ex Drummer: 3 handicapped losers start a punk band and hire a drummer, who psychotically manipulates them and it's just a batshit insane movie. It's based on a novel by a guy that some consider a Belgian Jim Goat type. Plus I imagine everyone in this movie represents everyone from this sub. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0812243/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
Borgman: A wandering vagrant enters the life of a family. It's weird as fuck. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1954315/
The Skin I Live In: I can't give too much details, or I'll spoil it. Basically, a dude has a woman held hostage, whom he uses as a guinea pig for his own scientific measures. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1189073/
Croupier: Clive Owen as a writer that begins a casino croupier. It's better than I describe it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0159382/
The Piano Teacher: The story of an absolutely batshit, insane woman: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0254686/
The Last Circus: It's an allegory to the Spanish civil war; but it's still really weird and fucked up: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1572491/
Oslo, August 31st: The story of a heroin addict on the first day out of a treatment facility: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1736633/
I Saw the Devil: A cat and mouse game between a serial killer and the man searching for him. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1588170/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
Antichrist: A fucked up Lars von Trier film about a couple that goes into a cabin in the woods, trying to mend their relationship after the death of their child. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0870984/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Nightmare Alley: It's an old school, oldtime noir movie and it's really good. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039661/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Night of the Hunter: Robert Mitchum plays one of the creepiest and best villains ever. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048424/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Gozu: The ending to this is one of the most bizarre things I've ever watched. It's good, though. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361668/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Crash: The Cronenberg film. Not the piece of overrated shit that Jim Norton jerks off to. It's about a subculture of car crash victims that fuck each other. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115964/?ref_=nv_sr_3
La Haine: I'd probably classify this as the French version of Taxi Driver. The main character even tries to emulate him. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113247/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Westfront 1918: A movie about the German troops during WWI from 1930 and the shit they went through. It's considered a classic.
Versus: Zombies vs. Yakuza vs. Ninjas set in a sci-fi forrest of resurrection. It's not a "good" film; but it's entertaining as fuck. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275773/?ref_=nv_sr_3
Also: The Raid; Fist of Legend; Hardcore Logo; Shattered Glass; Alphaville; Polytechnique; In Bruges; [rec]; Oldboy; Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance; Seven Samurai; etc, etc

Alphaville can suck a dick. The rest is solid though

I think you'll like The Proposition. Nick Cave wrote the script for it and most of the soundtrack.

I don't watch many movies at all these days but stand outs that I've seen in the past few years are a b-grade horror-ish movie called "Cookers" - genuinely scary and suspenseful and phenomenally acted! And a Spanish horror/suspence/dark comedy movie called "Sleep Tight" - brilliant movie about a sociopath. 93% on Rotten Tomatoes if that means anything.
1 jazzmercenary 2016-07-28
Miles ahead was definitely a good watch but the plot is hard to stay interested in. Cheadle nails all of Miles' mannerisms but it's hard to believe that he's getting in gun fights over some shitty record or buying coke from college students
A movie I'd recommend in that genre is Clint Eastwood's "Bird," a feel good movie bout the heroin addled sax player Charlie Parker, played by Forest Whitaker, who does an amazing job

Watch the movie "The Lobster". It's a very strange movie, but it's funny.

Creep on netflix. Low budget found footage but very surprisingly good.
Big Fan I always have to shout out in these threads XD.
City Of God - you have to suffer through subtitles but it rewards you with a Goodfellas-esque movie that IMO would almost say is better than Goodfellas.
10 Cloverfield Lane was good. It had one scene that dropped it from an 8 or 9 out of 10 to a 6 or 7 but it was one of the better big movies to come out in a while.

The post-apocalyptic train movie
1 TossyMcSalad 2016-07-28
it's the most horrendous movie ever. intelligence-insulting script and bad actors. no idea of basic physics, but tries to make a point about global warming.
1 late_50s_why 2016-07-28
You know which one right
1 TossyMcSalad 2016-07-28
is there more than one?

I don't know but the train movie is so fucking awful lol, that China man is so goofy
