Why do people like John Mulaney
0 2016-07-22 by tortoiseboy52
I'm watching john mulaney's new in town special because every nerd on reddit seems to like this guy but I'm not laughing. Even Bo Burnham's Make Happy Special/Sociopolitical Diatribe Bullshit seems more humorous than this. All I'm hearing are upper echelon "jokes" with the structure of a joke but none of the real life mechanics. This is like reading the Harvard Lampoon wtf.

Because he's funny.
Also because most fans of comedy would assume that anyone who tried to use terms like "upper echelon" and "real life mechanics" when referring to jokes is a fucking idiot.

Fuck that, he's funny. That "why buy the cow" bit and the thing with him chasing a woman in the subway are fuckin funny.
Try him again under different circumstances.
Also, Opie is a fat hack.

He tells a decent joke.
IOW, 3 stars, but would not blow.

He's yet another one of these people that acts like because they dont drink theyre tortured and interesting which is annoying, but he's a fairly decent stand-up. And he's funny with Nick Kroll as the old jewish guys.

I liked his New in Town special, but I tried watching his latest Netflix special and it was trash. He was waaay over confident, which doesn't fit his character. It's like the praise went to his head.
