I just thought of this: has Colin ever REALLY called out Opie on anything? Isn't he supposed to be good at pinpointing bullshit?

Why leave it for lesser minds like Bobby or Vos to step on the Greggshells? I love Colin; LOVE HIM. But i figure he has the same cantankerous bridge-burning potential that Patrice had; has he ever stepped on them himself? Or does he just not give a care?

Colin is a prodigy at sizing people up (as Patrice said) but I think he genuinely likes people. He rips his comic friends because he knows they can deal with it. the fact that Colin ignores all of Opie's retarded mannerisms and habits is a testament to how nice Colin is and how insecure and fragile Gregg really is.

This sounds right. He was weirdly gentle with Bobo when he guest hosted Ant's show when Ant was in rehab.

I think Colin doesn't like making fun of people who are genuinely mentally retarded, as in he doesn't like being mean to them because it's just too easy, Colin's not a bully.
You saw with Bobo that he treated him with respect. Possibly similar reason to why he hasn't called out Opie.

Colin really is great. Loved him in Night at the Roxbury.

After watching the Colin & Bobo show I would pay money to watch it as a replacement for Sunday political shows.

Picturing Opie reading this and getting a lump in his throat. "But why me doe??"

Every time Opie makes fun of someone, it's to build himself up. Either by tearing the other person down or by (lol) getting a laugh from the other people in the studio.
I've never seen Colin do this for these reasons, he's not that kind of a person.
3 InHell1979 2016-07-02
Absolutely. Opie really wants to be ADORED by both Colin and Ron Bennington.

Opie once said he thought "The Coloring Book" was an actual coloring book. He was snickered at by Jim and the staff, and then:
Opie: "I mean, come on, Colin, that's not crazy to think that, right?"
Colin: "... Well, yeah, its pretty asinine to think that I would make an actual coloring book."
24 Thomas_Daly 2016-07-02
No greggshells were tread, for opie wasn't sure if asinine meant stupid or insightful.

That is what's commonly known in the field of psychology as "concrete thinking," a habit that children between the ages of six and 12 begin to abandon as they learn "abstract thinking," a skill that most adults possess.
5 stinkskc 2016-07-02
And it really was insanely retarded for him to think that

He did once say something along the lines of "Opie is sitting there looking bewildered as always." And it was during an angry rant, too.
51 [deleted] 2016-07-02
Opie would have been pissed if he knew what bewildered meant.

Because he's not comfortable with Gregg. Who would be? He's not a person

I actually thought about this, and I think the really, really good comics realized how fucking idiotic he was but were so above dealing with that stuff that they ignored it. Patrice never took shots either. And there were many, many times he could've attacked, but chose to simply debate him sans cheap shots and let the audience see through it.
My favorite being the discussion about guys needing to make money and have clean, nice houses/apartments/cars in order to attract girls. I can't find the clip or I'd link to it, but Patrice was SEETHING and still just continued explaining his point rather than calling Opie out for... whatever the fuck he was trying to do there. Whether it was to be argumentative for a "bit" or because he actually believed his horseshit.

Patrice got serious with Opie once that I remember. It was in the beginning of the show and Opie was trying to psychologize Patrice saying that he was nervous (they had either just moved to a new station or just came back on the air or something) and Patrice said to leave the psychologizing to him. Then Opie in his raised whiny voice says "YOU WANNA PLAY LETS PLAY!" Patrice shouts back "We're NOT playing! What? Am I supposed to be like oh lawwdy Opies serious now?"
Then of course Opie lowered his voice like a bitch and was like "well all I'm saying is..."
He also mocked Opie a little during the Dr. Z interview when Opie was doing a passive aggressive having another conversation while Patrice was talking to Dr. Z. Then when Patrice caught onto it and went silent, Opie tried to bring the conversation back but Patrice started mocking what he was saying. It's right before he's like "so you talk to her and you try to see her tits"
2 americanmook 2016-07-02
yeah thats the only two times and opie caved like a bitch the first time.

I do remember the Dr. Z thing now. Opie couldn't contribute anything remotely funny so he just kept talking about "seeing boobies" while a genius deconstructed men vs. women. But who would want to hear that?
6 DeryDerpette 2016-07-02
Colin probably realises that it wouldn't be fun with Opie because Opie can't take it. People like Vos, Bobby or Jimmy will take it in good humour, try to zing him back and it turns into comedy but, if you try to poke fun at Opie, he takes it personally and holds the show hostage.

You really think Colin is the kinda guy to fuck up and burn bridges? He seems entirely the opposite to me..
17 Always_Classy69 2016-07-02
there was an article here a couple days ago about how he called Tina Fey a cunt to her face
7 ihaveaholeinmyass 2016-07-02
Well isn't she?
1 beleca 2016-07-02
Actually it wasn't to her face, it was on her voicemail. She says it during a Stern interview that I just heard a couple days ago.
1 InHell1979 2016-07-02
No he's smarter than that for sure. But there's a difference between potential and practice. He doesn't have to do that, but I'm sure he's thought about it at one point.
3 shickadantz 2016-07-02
I remember one time where Opie started going on about something they were doing and Colin said "yeah I heard you guys do that this morning before I came in" or something like that. Opie said something douchey along the lines of "way to ruin the bit." Colin shot back "sorry I was listening to the show on my own time..Ope." Opie tried to move on after, likely with a call from Snowy as far as I remember. In that pause before he said Ope I like to picture Opie caught Colin's glare and realized he was tangling with a man he cannot use his Greggstapo tactics on.
2 RacksDiciprine 2016-07-02
Colin couldn't afford to burn the bridge with Opie even if he wanted to. That Exposure is something he can't replace. That being said the O and J numbers can't be anything close to what O and A were getting so the Opie show has like 0 appeal to anyone of fame
3 ShetUp 2016-07-02
He would just start doing Howie's show more often. That would also hurt the Opsters feelings even more so.
2 MetalZeroSix 2016-07-02
YOU LEAVE COLIN ALONE!!!

colin dances on a tight rope, and his shots usually contain one or more 3 syllable words thus preventing opie from ever truly grasping how little regard colin has for him
1 stinkskc 2016-07-02
He knows Opie can't handle it. Colin is too nice of a guy. I bet he's talked shit about him behind his back though
1 chickennuggetkid 2016-07-02
I remember that one episode with Mark Cuban when Colin was actually pissed at Opie, but that just made him quiet, he didn't destroy Opie like he could have. Colin is very nice to non-comedians or civilians as we like to be called.
1 emende21 2016-07-02
All this colin quinn loving have you guys checked out Colin hosting a debate show at the cellar? on youtube.
1 brmlb 2016-07-02
Opie is not a real human. Thats why Patrice never went after him either.
