After revisiting older O&A clips one thing has been made abundantly clear - Opie TRIED to hang with the comics in the room but fell flat on his face regularly.

I noticed Opie doing this a lot in the early XM days, all the way up until the show got booted from being simulcast on Krock & XM. The comedian "hang" show was in full effect during this era.

Opie would often say a line and not get a laugh. At this point many of the comedians knew making fun of the man was off limits, so his bombs would just be ignored. However, Opie wanted to come off being cool so he'd steam roll over everyone else in the studio after his line bombed with something like this:

"No, nothing? nothing at all? I thought it was funny, [insert a sentence retelling & explaining the joke here]. Oh boy, I'm heating up."

This would then force the entire show to come to a grinding halt, and the comedians in studio would give titboy a fake laugh so the show could proceed without being awkward.

I guess after Opie struck out so many times he eventually felt defeated and stopped contributing?

Also - "Line of the day" mysteriously stopped being included on the show around this era too. I guess Opie was feeling left out so he had that bit canned too.

Fuck him.

Opie sucks.

Alright don't spread unfounded rumours

I'd like to think we've mounted a pretty strong case over the years.

Yes among other things

Thing is...people accepted him as the non-comic doofus in the room, who listeners quickly forgot was there cause there were others around to immediately distract from that.

THEN...he decided that HE was the reason for the show's success and put himself over as the guy that could HANG!!!

Fucking asshole

tss yeah he probly sucks a buncha peckas or sumtin

Allegedly

I am beginning to suspect rather strongly that this may in fact be the case.

The worst was when he'd halt the show to take a caller saying "Opie had a funny line you missed when he said...." And he'd fake modesty like he had no idea the caller was going to praise him. But it was glorious when Vos called him out on it that time.

Listening to old clips on YouTube, it's more than that. Anytime the laughs would get rolling, Opie has zilch to contribute so he'd compulsively overcompensate while everyone was still dying laughing at each other, literally right in the middle of a big laugh. I'd guess it's from feeling uheard in a family with a bunch of other kids, and acting out to get attention.

His go-to ways to "contribute" by interrupting, without being funny:

  • Going to the phones
  • Starts reading jokes from instant feedback
  • Says "OK, lets try and get through this clip" as if time is of any consequence on a 2-3 hour show
  • Brings up that they have a lot to get through that day and immediately switches the subject to an unrelated clip / news story
  • "Vurrrrrrry good" "... is killing it for us today"(taking ownership of the laughs with his seal of approval while having zero to do with them)

Etc. Once people started pointing them out, it ruined old clips for me, although I can tune it out pretty well.

Don't forget Tit's go to responses of either ''Enjoy your last time on the show Rich'' or ''Are you gonna call me and apologize after the show''

Tit's is a tool

I think Rich said "what the fuck is this, the pandering show?" You could tell Opie didn't expect to be called out on it.

one time during the retard kid on the cooking show segment ant and jim were doing retard jokes and opie yelled "I MADE BROWNIES... IN MY PANTS!!" and it got an obligatory fake-ish laugh from ant and jim. Then a few minutes later he takes a call from someone saying YOU GUYS EVERYONE MISSED OPIES LINE ABOUT BROWNIES LOL POOP RETARD PANTS and it was so uncomfortable

I would've found it funny, but I'm just imagining Opie in his dumb whining voice to over exaggerate it. Jim or ant would've made it funny.

I hate almost all the retard jokes. Paint chips, eating pennies, we fucking get it, its the same 4 hacky jokes over and over

Fair enough, it's all relative. As long as we both hate Opie

Any time Vos went after Opie was great. That Red Eye clip where Vos calls him out and Opie gets super defensive and tries to ''destroy'' Vos by listing all the talk shows he'd been on (Letterman, etc) was infuriating. Vos of course backed off because it's pointless trying to goof on Opie, that overly-sensitive bum.

It's amazing how, in spite of all the criticism he has and continues to receive, he has never abandoned his Titsy ways.

He should start by abandoning the tits, am I right gang?

He did this to Jimmy or ant equally as much if a line went unnoticed. We all are aware they can see what the caller wants to talk about.

link?

Remember when Bombs and Flubs was first introduced? Opie kept remarking how perfect Ant was because he barely did either. It was really uncomfortable because he kept saying "And once again, Ant is perfect."

we know

My favorite regular to listen to get perpetually annoyed with Opie is Louie. Every appearance you can just hear him rolling his eyes after every interruption

HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON. So you're saying Louie got annoyed?

Opie gets EXTREMELY obsessive with the subtle compliment-fishing statements with louie in studio.

"Were the best radio show, right louie? Were one of the better ones right?"... "Yeah you guys are awesome, i listen to your guys' show every morning" ... "Oh youre just saying that."

"Thats what WE do."

"WE GET THAT ALL THE TIME WHERE GUESTS DONT KNOW WERE ON THE AIR CAUSE WERE JUST A HANG OUT ATMOSPHERE AMIRITE"

"Our PD's have tried to get a woman on the show for years. Most shows have those HOLES. We dont though. Our show would NEVER have a hole."

I'm sure he still tries to be funny on a regular basis. Even when he bombs he excuses it away with 'I'm sure someone out there laughed.'

Today they had Jacques Cousteau's grandson on who was talking about visiting uninhabited islands way out in the middle of the Pacific ocean. Tits started a sentence but was cut off. Like he does every single time, he started the same line again as soon as everyone else stopped talking. It was over a minute later.

"Didja get good cell service out there?" ........... "Heh heh eh eh ih ih ih ih ih ih ih ih ih ih ih."

If you go back and listen to the Norton Roast he knew to keep his dumb mouth shut and stay in the background. It's no coincidence that show was arguably the funniest of all time.

It's also the same reason why Bombs and Flubs was so great, because it was the staff's way at getting back at Oqie.

How about the way he would subliminally implicate himself in the funny. Like if someone was upset that they were made fun of on the show Opie would say something like "c'mon man WE trash each other all the time, it's just jokes" (says "jokes" in an 'aww shucks' voice that makes me want him dead). Or he would occasionally say things like "we're ruthless with each other man, if you're gonna give it you gotta be able to take it". While you're hearing him say these things you're remembering "You didn't make one joke Opie, what the fuck are you saying?"

He kept saying that during the Jimmy roast to vos and it was so annoying.

Patrice vs the doctor.

Opie was the absolute worse. I hope he fucking gets cancer for ruining this.

Of course it's not time stamped. Why would it be?

timestamp is in the description dumbo.

what year do you think he stopped trying?

what year did Ant come on board?

After a lot of the "line of the day"s, a little sound bite of Opie would play. Felt like he made them do that so he could be included. Did he ever have line of the day?

I hate to say it but yeah, back in those days he would actually have a genuinely good line every now and then, but even a broken clock is right twice a day am I right gang?

back in those days he would actually have a genuinely good line every now and then

I'm willing to bet that like 80% of those were from instant feedback.

I'm sure, but there was still that 20% more than he is capable of now. Kudos to us for destroying his confidence.

I was listening to an old episode yesterday and Opie had a kind of decent and surprisingly self deprecating joke.

Ant said "Opie had a good point the other day..." and Opie cut in with "I did!?"

This isn't bad. Did the Opester beat it into the ground after it got a chuckle? "Eheheh.. Heh. Because, y'know, I rarely make good points. SOMETIMES, though. Eheh. Hehehe. That's the kind of humor we have on this show. See I take a beating from the guys sometimes. Heh."

Well I'll be dipped.

It says a lot about the Opester that this little self-deprecating throw-away joke is a remarkable occurrence, though. Nevertheless, I thank you for your service.

His bad fake stutter delivery almost ruined it.

I know he's made me laugh with a decent one a time or two. I'll be sure to take a note if it happens again.

Keep in mind, just because it needs to be said, I want Opie to be raped with a loaded shotgun.

(hole voice) oh, stop it!

Opie had the first line of the day. Opie came up with line of the day because he actually had a good line after so long he wanted to start the bit to make sure he got one.

I'm not kidding.

I loved when it was Opie, Anthony, and Sam or Danny if Jimmy was gone and all the line-of-the-day's were Anthony's lines.

This is reminding of how much I detest the old "Super Mario Bros." "Hurry Up" music they'd play when the show was wrapping up; I'd always associated it with Opie. It was hacky, so I figured using it was his idea.

I thought it was clever. I mean the show DID have a hard out.

Wait the actual music from the game?

He honestly ruins most old clips. I hate him. He's just constantly wrecking the flow. And now I notice him getting his feelings hurt all the time.

There was some old afro show where Dave was being a lunatic and it was great. Then Opie suggested he do some obvious over the top thing and Ronnie put a stop to it. Of course Opie then starts whining and acting hurt.

You know there is plenty of stuff we could say about you. So. Just leave it alone.

Leave it alone.

The best clips are the ones where Opie clearly saved a line for a few minutes too long.

The guys would be talking about sex then, 10 minutes later the topic would turn to sports. During the sports talk, Opie would casually mention a sex story.

He stinks, and I don't like him!

They had no listeners when they started on satellite.

Woah now slow down with the hot takes

And it took you 15 years to come up with the words to criticize it, so did it really fall flat? Opie is a millionaire radio host while you're in your mom's basement.

Opie did have a really funny line a few years ago. Something about Bam Margera fucking his wife's mouth and sticking a finger in her ass.

First of all, acknowledging youre bombing and saying "OH im heating up" after it fails and having everyone laugh at you contradicts the agenda of the opie hate aka greggshells. Also line of the day were played for years and you cant keep having the same bit forever. Opie and everyone in the room were aware that he rarely even got a runner up in the mix. Opie wasnt there to be the funniest in the room or even funny, this is a nonpost. And no im not a fanboy, hes an insecure douche and most of the time its cringe inducing to listen to him. But you guys really can take any clip or scenario of the show and somehow make it about hating opie, literally any clip. Youre a bunch of bandwagon circlejerks.

Okay terrific
