Did Norton just announce he was done in October?
7 2016-06-15 by i_saw_nothing
I tuned into the last 20 minutes of Jim's Advice Show because I'm an alcoholic drug user with sleep apnea that wants to start stand-up but don't know where to turn, and he ended it by saying,
"The Jim Norton Show, very popular program especially since people are possibly going to miss me after October 4th, so get your fill of Jim Norton while you can. My nose is stuffy. Thanks for the calls. See you next week."
Was something announced earlier, or is Jim just being silly?

I heard Chip Chipperson™ is now more recognizable than Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny.

He said earlier he doesn't know whats going on and doesn't even know if Opies been offered a contract.
Just being a cheeky scallywag

Oh, Jim!
I must have missed that part. The last two or three calls was all that I heard, and I thought he sounded a lot more mushy and emotional than I remembered.
I thought that maybe with the fight, and him going off on tour and missing more shows, and Sherrod becoming more buddy buddy with Opie, maybe something was announced.

Sirius is sponsoring Jimmy's tour. I doubt they'd sponsor a tour then dump him a month later. They may split the team to though. AMs with jimmy and afternoon with Tits and Lips
1 Buttpudding 2016-06-15
No way opie goes to afternoons. He would throw bitchfits back in the day mad that 10:30 was too late.
2 ObsessiveMuso 2016-06-15
Nope, listen to this. He makes constant mentions of "moving to afternoons", first what appears to be mockingly, but as it goes on it makes it seem more and more like he actually wanted to do it in spite of Ant and Jims refusal.
1 Lyle_D_Chipperson 2016-06-15
Did you just coin the term Tits and Lips?
1 kirk_peppermint 2016-06-15
It shall be known.

Sherrod's not going to replace Jim

Or is Opie again pulling the "I'm not resigning shit" negotiation tactic that left everyone else in the dark, even though Opie himself knew he was gonna sign anyway, but just never told anyone.
6 bigmattson 2016-06-15
That's interesting. Could be that negotiations aren't going well for him, for Opie, or for both of them.
Given the love SiriusXM has shown Jimmy recently (sponsoring his tour, having him host several interviews/shows on other channels) leads me to believe they like him.
Now, they may not like Opie... We could all understand why at times the company would want him gone, he's awkward, volatile, his fan base is smaller (understandably) than it was 3 years ago, and Howard clearly hates him.
The question should be, would Jimmy stay if Opie is gone too?
2 MilliBotany 2016-06-15
HAHAHAHAHAHA! That's terriffic, that's terriffic.
1 mr__hat 2016-06-15
Yes. Also letting him go host some shitty UFC podcast while he is under contract. SXM are clearly planning to keep Happy Jim around.
Unless something dramatic happens, O&J are going to re-sign in October.
4 bigmattson 2016-06-15
I could see them getting rid of Opie and have "Jim Norton w/ Friends" stick around... He did foreshadow that at the end of the show.
Love or HATE Opie, his name has TREMENDOUS value with it... When it's attached to Anthony. Which is isn't.
2 PassProtect15 2016-06-15
Pure fantasy. Opie still has better brand recognition.

He certainly does... You could still argue that his show is the 2nd biggest morning show on SiriusXM... But it's a distant 2nd, and the guy in 1st hates his guts.
1 Sicboy69 2016-06-15
You could be right, Sirius/XM probably never paid any real attention to Opie as an individual talent, all they saw was a successful radio show with Opie being one of the 3 guys & assumed he had a purpose & they gave them a contact. After all the shit that went down in last couple of years with Anthony & Greggshells sage were their employee was crying on air they probably started to examine this radio show they spend millions of dollars a year on & they may have realized that Opie isn't a talent at all just a cheesy morning zoo guy & they probably realized Jimmy actually has some talent & could be an asset to the company. Also Opie fucking with Howard in the hall to the point where new rules were implemented could have an impact even if it was as harmless as Opie claims & Howard is just being oversensitive the fact of the matter is Stern is the face of the company & he could have Opie fired in a heartbeat.
2 bigmattson 2016-06-15
You're 100% right. Especially at the end about Stern, Opie could have been an angel, but if Stern REALLY wanted to, he could get him out of the building entirely.
2 Sicboy69 2016-06-15
Exactly, Opie always talks about management liking the direction of the show but he's to stupid to understand that Howard is basically the CEO, he believes they're two equals who at one point had a rivalry. Sirius bends over backwards to kiss Howard's ass & his new contract is supposably over $500 million now, so if Howard is uncomfortable in the hallway every morning what does the 'management' do to keep their main major investment happy? Even if Howard never actually says to fire him, the company might take it upon themselves not keep Gregg around.
1 bigmattson 2016-06-15
Yeah, I'm actually almost positive they do like the direction of the show after Ant left... More left leaning, less edge, less adult themes, all of those are things I'm sure Sirius likes.
But dumping Opie's contract, both saves them money, and gives them something to run to Stern and say "SEE WE LOVE YOU" with...
1 Platos_one-hitter 2016-06-15
I'll eat a severed, black dick if Opie ends up doing morning zoo in a triple digit market
1 DerpSherpa 2016-06-15
Would love to see him crawling to Ant on October 5th...
1 Joemomma101 2016-06-15
I hate to be the one to break it to you but SiriusXM LOVES Opie. Sirius thinks Opie is the star. They thought Anthony was just a dumb AC repair man that told dick jokes. Opie was the real talent in their minds. It's the same with Jim Norton. They don't care if he leaves or not, it's totally up to Opie.
3 DickPunchOpie 2016-06-15
"My nose is stuffy" is a distress signal, he obviously hates Opie too, sniff. It's like the hostages that are forced to read from a transcript so they keep a middle finger up or when Carol Burnett would slap her boob to say goodnight to her grandfather.
3 cbanks420lol 2016-06-15
Jimmy putting his uncontrollable blinking to good use
1 MilliBotany 2016-06-15
What?
1 DickPunchOpie 2016-06-15
Carol Burnett is an old comedienne who had a primetime variety show or something (before my time, too lazy to google). At the end of the show she would always tug her ear. It turns out that was a secret little "good night" to her grandmother. Slapping a tit would be a creepy good night to her grandfather, but I was just kidding around, it didn't happen. The More You Know.
1 MilliBotany 2016-06-15
Yes, I know who Carol Burnett is! lol
And of course, I know the ear tug thing.
That's why I asked about the tit slap!
1 Sternacthegreat 2016-06-15
Norton trying to rally the troops. I don't see Jim leaving safe money, but perhaps they are offering less money this time.
It will be interesting to see if Opie goes to bat hard for Jimmy in the coming months, or if we maybe see a Jackie, The Joke Man type scenario where Opie tacitly allows Sirius to cut Jim, and use a portion of what was Norton's money to hire a revolving cast of comedians.

He would not stick his neck out for Jimmy.

It could just be Jimmy's version of Tits' "working on my resignation letter" tweet.
1 SHUT_UP_STUPID 2016-06-15
It could be that maybe his Advice Show won't be renewed, but I doubt it as I feel he would only need 1 contract to do both shows.
He should learn from Jackie the Joke Man and just take whatever they give him.
