No, apparently Mustard's work ethic wasn't up to par. One creepy thing is that as I recall Opie wanted to partake into the profits instead of just giving them to Mustard intact as he originally proclaimed.
It usually works out for all those American Idol people when you make someone famous singing a song they didn't write and then have them try to put out their own material.
