Fallon is the worst. Fake laughs through a 2 minute interview to get to the bits and do his awful impressions. There's this clip of Kevin Durant on Fallon and it's the best. Durant doesn't fake laugh with him and Fallon bombs miserably
Two things: First, do you typically find mainstream things to be great? By definition they're meant to bring in the most casual/widest demographic so they're always watered down.
Second: Fallon gets shit on by a lot of people in entertainment for being baby food, The Tonight Show isn't an institution anymore and hasn't really been since the early 90s.
I think it was an institution right until NBC screwed with it and Jay Leno. They treated it like it was disposable.
After that debacle, Kimmel and Letterman became more popular, essentially unseating the Tonight Show as a TV institution.
When the smoke cleared, the real loser in all of this was Conan. Yes, he got a huge pay day. But, he signed a non-compete on major TV and has been relegated to an after thought on TBS. IIRC, he has the lowest rated talk show of the entire bunch (Late Show, Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel, Daily Show.)
