Tom Scharpling's The Best Show!

Never actually listened to the show before but watched some clips last night and was howling for hours. Definitely the funniest radio I've heard since O&A.

The Best Show really is as good as OP says it is.

I've been listening for a couple months now, Tom Scharpling is absolutely hilarious. Sometimes he'll have a really hipster-y guest on but it doesn't stop him. It's great.

Yeah its great. First bit I heard was "rot, rock, and rule" and its still my favourite.

This is one of the classic bits that got me hooked:

When listening to that hilarious mockery of ICP, bear in mind that when ICP was on OnA, Jimmy interviewed them like he was talking to the living ghosts of Leonard Bernstein and Milton Friedman.
Endless questions about their art, craft and business acumen.

Maybe because Jim Norton was ACTUALLY appearing at the Fresh Ass Comedy Tent at the Gathering of the Juggalos as recently as 2013?

You'd be surprised the comedians who have done that show. Some respected names. It pays well enough, they get names.

Supposedly they take very good care of the wrestlers as well and a lot of them cite it as one of their favorite gigs of the year.

I watched one of their legend wrestling nights or something on you tube recently and you would never believe the goddamn card they put on. Jam packed with legends. The whole thing pretty much stunk but still.

Haha

Been loving this show for like 8 years. It's awesome.
Mocking Ricky Gervais
I know O&A also mocked this Billy Crystal bit, but I like Scharpling's just as much:
Billy Crystal

For everyone listening to this for the first time, bear in mind that Crystal is doing this routine at a FUCKING KATRINA BENEFIT.
Scharpling doesn't make it immediately clear in the clip.

Ha, yeah. It's alluded to later but good call. I figure people here have heard O&A mock that bit. That one is classic, too. Such cringe-worthy shit from Billy Crystal.

my favorite radio show, here's the archives of the show when it was on the radio. I suggest checking out 2009-10 shows, maybe Scharpling at the height of his power. https://wfmu.org/playlists/BS

He did something funny with Tim Heidecker on twitter once, but I dont remember what it was. And scrolling down I saw he made fun of Gathering Of The Juggalos with Paul F Thompkins. No way that isnt hilarious as hell. Didnt know it was possible there was another funny radio show, maybe Ill listen to it someday.

I've gotten carried away and hyped it too much. This thread is destined for failure.

There were best show threads and mentions before, always downvoted if i remember. I think its to "pussy" or obviously liberal for the sub. Wurster was in the band Superchunk. If you are a Superchunk fan they put a 20 minute track on album of these college radio djs (not Scharpling wurster) analyzing their song "hyper enough" which is just funny because these kids take the song so seriously and get the lyrics so wrong.

You need your comedy podcasts to be TOTALLY NOT PUSSY BRO? And you somehow graft that need for super-fucking-not-gay podcasting onto a political ideology? You must be so fucking tough bro! Can I pledge your frat?

Did he ever reconcile with PFT? I thought both of them were at their funniest on this show together. I really enjoyed a lot of those shows.
The Best Show probably peaked when he'd get Patton, Aimee Mann, Galifianakis, etc in studio all the time. Somehow that faded and he was settling for the likes of Andy Kindler.
I checked his podcast once and he seemed a little depressed.
1 chickennuggetkid 2016-05-14
He hasn't spoken of PFT since their falling out, whatever that was about. The podcast is improving, but he's never been as confident or funny as his radio days.
