When he's riffing Big Jay is one of the quickest and funniest guys around. When he's telling a story he turns into a doddering grandpa that gets bogged down in meaningless minutiae. Someone is giving him bad advice because lately he seems to constantly repeat the same bad stories while prefacing that the fans love it and don't care when they retell stories.

Agreed about Jay, when it comes to off-the-cuff riffing, he rivals Norton for quickness. But when he's telling a story, my god is it meandering. It's even worse on LOS where in addition to the doddering, you've got three other guys trying to get lines in, so it just prolongs the story even further and makes any punchline or payoff less satisfying.

The only person who rivals Norton in off the cuff quickness is Artie. Period.

Yeah im really tired of it, i listened to Dan on 3 different shows this week, his latest appearance in ykwd and in O&J, both shows were great. So in this dan soder high i decided to listen to the bonfire to keep it going.

Honestly, I've never been too impressed by any of the Legion of Skanks hosts. While Jay and the other guy (the one not called Luis J Gomez) have moments of brilliance, they are few and far between.

I think that if Dan Soder was paired with a clone of Opie in 1995 (someone willing to push boundaries, who thoroughly understands radio and takes the time to prepare content for the show), it could be the next big show in radio.

I like the Bonfire, but I still miss the meanness O&A had and haven't found a replacement for that besides this sub. Also, I thought Dan was attempting to rein in the nearly-humorless sex talk a bit, but it seems he's resigned himself to it again.

I still listen from time to time, and it still gets pretty mean, especially if Chris Wylde is on. There was an episode a few weeks ago where Jason announced he was having a kid and they spent the next hour shitting on how awful he was going to be as a father and how his unborn kid is doomed.

Oh I'm sure it's still mean, it just stopped being 1/100th as funny once Jim left. It feels like an even dumber, even more fratted up version of O&J but with the bottom tier of the Death Squad regulars as guests.

I loved it up until there was six consecutive shows where they tried to get Jacob laid for the entire show and I gave up. He's like their Bobo but with absolutely nothing interesting him even in a bad way.

To be honest, I am the only person here who would ever say this and I am probably wrong, but Jay and Dan have chemistry that almost works. Dan is funnier than Jay, but takes a back seat because Jays the senior which ends with ether one of there stories cutting each other off. If you put Dave Smith in an Opie like role I could see it getting better, someone there to not necessarily riff endlessly but is funny in a different kinda way.
