I got 25 minutes into Gervais's Special Correspondents on Netflix.

Please, let me know if it gets better. From what I saw it's not Razzies worst movie bad, but not far off. Not even a smirk in the first 25. Gervais's loser character is Brent/ Andy Millman without the jokes. He's somehow married to the woman that Damon and DiCaprio were competing over in The Departed. She's a bitch but so what. Most importantly, Jimmy's "cameo" is truly embarrassing. Blink and you'll miss it - first minute of the film. If you didn't know who he is, you'd think, wow they actually found an aged rent boy for that 1 line. It makes his appearance in Spider Man look like De Niro in Taxi Driver. Perhaps he'll have more to do later in the film but doubt it. I quit and am going to re watch The Shield.

Gervais is nothing without Stephen Merchant.

It goes the other way too. Merchant's HBO show stunk on ice. They definitely do best as a team.

I agree. The millions of people who liked the British version of the office were stupid

I don't need to like everything Gervais does. The Office was a fucking masterpiece. I'm glad he exists, one of the bigger names in comedy fighting back against political correctness and religion in general.

Political correctness is not a subset of religion. They're actually two separate things.

Yeah that could have been written better, but I think you know what I was going for.

It's pretty impressive that he has both The Office and Extras on his CV. Two good TV shows from one person is so rare that three would be extraordinary.

I actually liked Derek. It wasn't anything like The Office or Extras, but it was a decent show. Karl Pilkington was hilarious in it.

Derek was garbage. Life's too short on the other hand was hilarious.

Good call, loved that show. Idiot abroad was amazing too.

Idiot Abroad was great, when Warwick Davis joined I lost interest in it though.

Yeah that season seemed a little forced.

Yeah, he sure is scathing in his criticism of Islam, right?

Faggot. Love you, though.

Idk what you were going for here.

fighting back against....... religion in general.

I just meant he doesn't do any such thing and you know it. He has shitty, sophomoric criticism of Christianity because it's a safe target.

Point me to a serious criticism he's made about Islam like Dawkins and Harris.

He posted this after the Charlie Hebdo attacks

Gervais later tweeted: “You could easily spot any Religion of Peace. Its extremist members would be extremely peaceful.”

You aren't wrong about him focusing on Christianity, but he does make general statements about all religions being equally stupid. Love Sam Harris and Dawkins. Hitchens was by far my favorite of the "new" atheists.

Well fair play then, I was wrong. It's pretty tame but it's there.

Hitchens lost me after supporting the Iraq war. I like his brother better. Although I would say that being religious myself.

He was defending the invasion for the right reasons. He has always supported the Kurds the north, and laid out some pretty strong reasons of why we had to act. He said multiple times that Bush was running the war incompetentl, but he was right on the main point. They've done polls in Iraq 10 years after the initial invasion, and reliably Iraqis were glad to be rid of Saddam. Our focus should be on Saudi Arabia, but I'm glad we've given Iraq a shot at a civilized democracy.

Oh please! He only liked the Kurds because they're ostensibly Marxist. Secular and non-sectarian Baathism as practiced by Hussein and Asssad is infinitely more preferable than whatever ethnic clusterfuck you can come up with.

'Civilized Democracy'.

Nigguh, please. Go tell it to school children (haaahhh???).

Hitchens supported the war because he rightly viewed the foreign policy of the ex-Trotskyist Neoconservatives as one that was in keeping with his revolutionary aims.

The Iraqis are subject to the same amount of social engineering that the Germans and Japanese were after the war. If you're seriously telling me that you think some survey done by Pew is indicative of any kind of deeper sociological truth in Iraq regarding the occupation then you need to go back to school.

Love you.

You are making some major assumptions about Hitchens actual beliefs. Nothing you or anyone else says will convince me that a dictator committing genocide would be better left in power. I'm well aware of other atrocities that we didn't stop, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help when we can. I imagine Rwanda would have been messy if we had intervened, but I can't imagine a worst scenario than what actually occurred. Maybe we went in for all the wrong reasons, but this idea that we simply did it for oil or because we enjoy killing brown people is silly. Not that you were implying that at all.

i didn't watch it all but to summarise: Ricky Gervais plays E-Rock.

So true.. I watched about 30 min and all Gervais' character basically says is "I'm Not Good" Never made the E-Rock correlation but that's dead on.

His unwarranted admiration for his boss, Eric Bana's character, is familiar. He thinks Bana is so cool because he doesn't care what other people think, but in reality Bana is nowhere near as popular as he thinks.

He collects comics and action figure dolls. Plays video games too much. He's fat. His wife is disappointed in him.

I'm gonna say that the Kelly MacDonald character is Sam.

I'm 13 minutes in and Ricky is playing with his PSP in an elevator while getting cucked im watching Bob's burgers.

I'm only about 5 minutes in, Kelly MacDonald's accent is annoying me, it sounds fake and I know it is fake. What do you American fucks think of it?

They wouldn't know the difference between a West Country and Glasgow accent and wouldn't give a fuck.

Yeah... what does that have to do with the Scottish woman doing some Yankee accent?

If it was the other way around (a Yank doing some British accent, or Irish or Australian) they would be hammered online, even if they actually did a decent job there would be a sizeable amount of "we don't sound like that" comments.

Well bloody fucking cheerio to you nob mates and a jolly-ho, you fucking arse bummers.

I guess because most Brits under the age of 40 grew up on largely American tv/movies. The opposite can't be said. That's why there are more Brits/Aussies etc doing well on American shows/films than the opposite.

Plus the US is where most of the work is.

between a West Country and Glasgow accent

i bet europeans can't tell the difference between a south carolina and north carolina accent either and wouldn't give a fuck either. maybe if you lived somewhere important we would give a shit about the accent in those places

Neither can most Americans.

I laughed at 'aged rent boy'

Jimmy appears about 1:20 seconds in. I think this is his big break.

He's a lock for Midnight Cowboy 2

It's a testament to how good The Office was that anybody still expects anything out of Gervais. Extras was OK, but other than that everything he's made since has been awful.

Extras was gold, you're crazy.

Big shield fan huh? (Fag)

There wouldn't be half of the good television there is now without The Shield.

I don't watch anything if a British person is in it. Their accents are fucking disgusting along with their teeth, faces, and bodies. Americans are better in every way. I hope England gets raped.
