O&A were a much better show than Howard for anyone who was still under 30 by the late 2000s, Howard is great but everything good he's ever done is on YouTube in 40 minute clips here and there. Do you see any massive compilations for Howard Stern like the Louis CK on O&A, Patrice on O&A, Colin vs. Jimmy compilations etc, Howard doesn't have any of that going on at all, he has little clips and moments etc, it's extremely overrated by fans who get really emotional when you tell them the show they love so much isn't that good besides the soap opera drama and a few good moments from the 90s here and there left over. The vast majority of what he did on the airwaves was completely forgettable, unlike O&A. Howard had 20+ years of a full archival / video production staff to create a huge pool of audio/video for the future and it just is not there. O&A had 10 years where their fans had the ability to make clips of their show (Howard had staff for that in the 90s) and in those 10 years they crushed his entire catalogue
i dunno i downloaded a 60 gig todd packer compilation torrent of stern clips. people would sell hard drives filled with thousands of hours of audio and video content on them. howard pulls everything from youtube so people have to constantly re-upload it so maybe that's why you don't see big compilations on there.
I have that too but also have 300 gigs of O&A clips that fans cut up and made with tons more content than the packer zips... I love Stern but the stripper interviews, playboy crap, and all of those random idiots who would come in for plugs, the countless amount of sleeper interviews he's done with boring celebrities, O&A very rarely filled out their show with any of it and when they did we got stuff like Shawna Lenee meltdown. Anthony was the greatest with celebrities he could connect to them and bring out the side of them like they were at the bar having a drink with him. That vibe was pretty rare while Stern would psychoanalyze celebrities as if I was going to find it interesting whether or not Richard Dreyfuss likes anal or how his relationship with his mother was. Those kind of questions lead to hours upon hours of content that no one ever cares to hear again, compared to O&A where the conversations they had are still relatable / relevant / relistenable
And it's not like those Todd Packer comps are tightly edited or anything. Sometimes it's just big stretches of an hour plus of a random show, under the guise of it being an "Artie compilation" or something. The big fan-made O&A comps on youtube are way more concise.
I've been trying to share them as much as possible haha on my submitted section there should be a ton but the real king is Garcia Torilla on archive or I think he's Beverly_Sheckler on here, he has the mother load already up for DL
To me it's a round table effect. The same way losing Ant was for O&A, losing a third mic in Artie was for the Stern show. When Stern brought in Sal and Richard, there was a lot of great radio from them about 10 years or so ago.
But it's about filling a room with people that can contribute to interesting. When there's just two vocal people, the topic becomes dominated often by one voice and becomes stale. That's why the middle section of Tough Crowd was so great and why Bobby tried to replicate that with his podcast, it sort of followed the fun of the Comedy Cellar table.
As much as I respect your opinion, I am a huge Eric the Actor fan and his clip packs are dozens of hours, if not hundreds, of radio gold for me. Sal Governale clip packs were also many hours long. Todd Packer used to have amazing Stern-related compilations on youtube. High Pitch Eric, Jeff the Drunk, Elegant Elliott, Gilbert, Beet, etc all went well into the Sirius years and were great during most of that time. IMHO.
True at the end of the day it really just comes down to opinion, there could be hours of content on either side but all of it is as good/bad as the person listening thinks it is
To be fair I've never googled for them using all those words. Mainly 'cause I'm lazy, but I'd also assume other people wouldn't bother typing out the whole thing. It's much easier to just type in "O&A", "OandA' or "Opienanthony". But of course same would apply to Howard, people would often just search for "stern" or whatever.
This is fascinating. I think myself and most others would be thrilled if you might share more of your Google habits. Is it always Google? Do you ever Ask Jeeves? Where are you at with the Bing?
Google trends are topic-aware. So all of that is grouped together. so "Howard Stern", "Stern Show" etc are grouped into <Topic: Broadcaster::Howard Stern>
A good rule of thumb is you can ask anyone on the street if they know who Howard Stern is, and they will undoubtedly say "yes". Ask anyone if they know who Opie and Anthony are they will undoubtedly say "no"
I remember when they were on xm and e-lo would come in and say they had more listeners than Howard. Did the bbboys actually believe that? In Howard's first year on Sirius he got a $200 million subscriber bonus + whatever % of the $100 million he got. Hard to believe they would be okay with their pay if they had more listeners.
The thought of Tits with genuine leverage is terrifying and depressing. Thankfully, it will never come to that, as he'll be in "fighting for his life"-mode until Sirius wakes up, realizes he brings absolutely nothing to the table, and stops re-signing him.
Those two chuckle fucks never bothered advertising themselves to reach stern levels...
Very sad really, it was there for the taking, but just decided they didn't want to do it. Instead they depended on employees they knew were shit, and a company that didn't have their back.

Opie did do a good job with Howard. That was a good bit for the show. The problem is during their xm/sirius years, they were only good when they were talking about Howard.

That doesn't mean that around the time Artie left, O&A were doing far better radio than Howard was, even if they didn't have as many Google searches.

Easily. Howard was a hundred times better at marketing his abominable pig shit. Norton & Friends was a hundred times the better show.
3 bonniesretardsister 2016-04-26
O&A had the better show years before Artie quit. Artie left at the end of 2009, and O&A were better than Stern in early 2005.

prob why for the last 10 years anyone, ever, in the walk of life have I asked if they know who Opie and Anthony is and I get a "who?"
2 im_not 2016-04-26
The spike in 2011 I'm guessing was from Anthony Weiner? And then the firing spike was in 2014.
7 CCRed95 2016-04-26
Heres my guesses for the spike sources:
Oct 2004 - Starting on XM
Apr 2006 - Return to Terrestrial Radio, Replacing David Lee Roth
May 2007 - Homeless Charlie Suspension
May 2009 - O&A Lose WXRK/Terrestrial Syndication, Opie VS. Anthony Fight I
June 2011 - O&A leak Anthony Weiner picture
July 2014 - Ant Fired

opie and anthony was probably searched in many ways: O and A , O & A , Opie and anthony and maybe some other terms that I do not know.
Howard was smarter in marketing I guess - most people would type out only howard stern when searching for anything him related
Anyway - whogivesafuck
