I'm not inclined to listen to a clip of Jim pontificating but: awards arent handed out purely on merit, awards and nominations are handed out 'politically.' (ie Denzel wins for training day because he didn't win for malcom x OR Titanic and Lord of the rings win because they make a shit ton of money. Miramax films win because the weinsteins are infamous lobbyers etc) So, to have a year where very visible, well regarded and commercially successful 'black' movies and performances all get snubbed certainly seems like a race problem. Not a malicious race problem, in my opinion and institutional one, where decision makers dont know how to judge 'black' movies along side white ones in even measure- they essentially only know how to give awards as statements.
The oscars are voted on by old white people. Of course they won't know a good black film or even a good modern white film for that matter. They, much like congress need to get purged the fuck out and let people from this century take over.
I'm having a hard time getting an answer for this too. Are they talking about Barber Shop 4? Every fucking Will Smith movie is the same -- him being the only guy in the world who can save earth. It's really not oscar worthy anymore. What black movies should win?
Straight Outta Compton and Creed were the two movies people feel were snubbed. In my opinion Creed should've gotten two acting nominations it didnt get.
No (Ant would though), I'd prefer people who know what a computer is and their childhood memories don't involve hand cranking their cars and getting the breaking news of the titanic sinking. I've seen more youthful retirement homes than congress.
