Loony farm and rehab. Probably dual diagnosis. It was mentioned a few times but I think she was doing a lot of coke. That along with being bipolar.... Oof, hope she gets well. I met her and Doug once and she was really nice
When you drink a ton of booze, you will eventually pass out.
Add any type of stimulant into the mix, and you get predictable results. Basically you can get epically drunk, and reach levels of intoxication that are just mind bending.
So I think what's going on here isn't necessarily about mental illness, a lot of it is the synergistic effects of mixing two drugs.
I think it's a bit unfortunate that this type of stuff isn't researched or talked about more widely. You hear lots of stories about celebrities dying of overdoses, but I don't think enough attention is paid to the fact that they wouldn't have died if they'd been more careful about what they mix together.
Even fairly modest stimulants like Red Bull can have this effect; people on Red Bull and Vodka are noticeably more deranged than people drinking vodka alone.
Besides the immediate effects, there's a couple other things that happen:
1) When you mix stimulants and booze, you can damage your brain a lot faster. Basically you can drink to levels that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
2) When you mix stimulants and booze, it's a lot easier to blackout. And if you've ever been a blackout drunk or been around people that were blacked out, you know that's a special kind of crazy.
This - and Doug said that she took her meds with her, when he was talking about her taking off. Meds, alcohol, and illegal drugs would make a normal person crazy, after enough time.
I have nothing against Bingo - she seems like a nice person when she's not having a psychotic break, and she seemed good for Doug for a long time, but more and more, I feel this is going to have a very unhappy ending. I'm worried about both of them - as crazy as she is/was, she was kind of his rock. If she goes, he's going to fall apart, and in a big way - the only good thing is he's surrounded by people who might help him when it happens.
I know way too much about both of them, to be honest. It's getting uncomfortable listening to his show.
Yeah. I've met her, she was super nice, and we are friends on Facebook, but that's primarily why I don't listen to his podcast. I'll probably download a few at some point, but that's just almost too much to digest for me.
These two rented a house on Stanhope's property for a couple years, and the girl died from a heart surgery related to Lupus. The day she died, the guy drove home from the hospital, bought a gun and spent the day with Bingo alone at Stanhopes place while he was on the road. He shot himself lying down in his bed during the night, and Bingo found him the next day.
Then she said on a recent podcast that "I was meant to find him, and I will end up killing myself, when the time is right" so I'm sure that was a contributor to her failing mental health. Also after splitting with doug, she shacked up with a guy in Bisbee that had two outhouses (high roller) and had delusions that guy was him.
That's some traumatic shit for someone as sensitive as Bingo, I can see how something like that could cause someone who already suffers from emotional turmoil to just snap.
that episode where they describe the breakup and she talks about how she's going to kill herself is unquestionably the craziest and most compelling podcast/radio episode ever recorded.
Stanhopes podcast is amazing just for it's real time documentation of derelict people. He lays everything out and something bad is always happening. It's almost like a real life soap opera but with people who contemplate and plan out luring the police into a shootout and people who use dildos and a fat suit to hide booze to smuggle on a cruise ship.
Netflix fodder, but really a great show. IT Crowd the same. Garth Marenghi's Dark Place. I've been bootlegging Toast of London, I hope that comes over so it gets a chance.
not really a comedy, has traces of dark humour, but if you've not seen Black Mirror i suspect you'll like it. Netflix got the rights for future episodes so will be even bigger in a few months time.
Thats one of those maybe I'll get to it shows. I did like The Fall with Agent Scully. I'm a big Call the Midwife and British Bake Off fan, as well, just like a real man.
It's pretty well known at this point. Not like The Office, but most vaguely interesting people know about it. After it hit Netflix, quite a few more people had heard of it. I think I've watched it about 5 times through at the point, one of my favorites.
Dude, I live on the East Coast here in the US, maybe 8 hours from NYC, and have only ever met 2 people who even know who they are. They were big in the radio and comedy circles, but barely made a dent in the culture here.
Well my missus has heard pretty much every show by proxy, and I showed my old man some bits every now and then cos its his kind of humour (he loved the Louis CK bit where Jim told him his mothers cunt stank). But besides that, its my shameful secret. I've always prefferred New York comedy to anything we have over here though.
I don't even know where'd you'd start. Fucking Sarah Millican, Russell Howard, we fucking stink. I've been re-watching a bunch of old Fry and Laurie stuff recently, I used to love that shit.
Thank christ. I love the dark vibe of the podcast lately, but it's really gotten depressing. Doug repeatedly saying "I want you back" to someone who's already decorating her new home inside a schoolbus and talking to owls...it's been an experience.
Her best friend died then her other best friend blew his head off and she found him.. And Doug Stanhope is her emotional partner. It's amazing she's as good as she is. A friend of mine tours with them and I hear all the stories. It's a fucked up life. Bingos a sweet heart. She's the polar opposite of you fuckers. I hope she gets well.

I don't disagree with any of that, but Bingo has a history of mental issues, for as long as Doug has known her.

While he technically had two outhouses, one of them is being used as an owl sanctuary.

Yeah so ? Ones for his owl ?

that sucks, she's been a little loony the past couple podcasts. I'm sure Stanhope will make uncomfortably honest jokes about it in the next one

English. We only say british when around americans.

Fuck off and watch downton abbey with your dick tucked between your legs.
Or watch black mirror and don't regret it. Also peaky blinders which is pretty much boardwalk empire set in post world war 1 Birmingham. Its great
1 WiretapStudios 2016-03-17
Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders are both great. Luther as well, but I know how this sub feels about men of a certain color.
