I would hope the attitude most people doing this would be like the 40 year old dudes playing beer league sports, you do it for fun and to get out of the house, taking it seriously is usually a sign of douchebaggery
I'm in a "band" and am late 30's. We do lots of covers of course. What's depressing about this video is that they're trying to directly imitate U2 in front of people who don't give a shit. I get joy out of playing as a group, but I couldn't imagine doing this. I don't take myself too seriously, but this would be humiliating.
Imagine going through everything it takes to present your band and sound as another existing band. Yuck. It would be like a job. Imagine someone dressing like Mitch Hedberg and going up on stage and telling Hedberg's exact jokes.
I play music and sometimes it is fun to just play along to your favorite songs. I'd never do this outside of my house though. Especially something like this where they're playing dress up.
In all fairness, a good cover band can make shitloads of money in the right city. Weddings, parties, private events, corporate events, etc. At $7k to $10k a pop, you'll quickly get over the artistic pang of playing someone else's music, especially if you keep busy.
Even still, money aside, no one learns an instrument to play an imitation game for the rest of their life. He's in like 4 cover bands and thats it. He doesn't make anything original. Even 20 years ago he was just making song parodies with his brother set to other people's music.
I agree, mostly. I do know some people who can play Tears In Heaven, Stairway To Heaven, some Metallica or what the fuck ever note for note, but try to get them to play around with G C and D and they have no idea what's going on. I never understood that kind of player, but then again, I've never had the discipline to learn a scale beyond the minor pentatonic. Ehhh, what do I know? I just grab a container of coffee and put on Midnight Rambler and play some licks in B over it.
Notice the guy on the right looks at the audience, up in the air and at the band but never at his hands. Now notice the clod on the left as he ham handedly strums his guitar and constantly looks down at his finger placement, and once or twice has the confidence to look up at the crowd for a second before looking back down at his fingers.
Jesus, you hear joe and ant talking this band up over the years, I was expecting them to be pretty good. That was legitimately awful. How does joe live with himself?
Wtf beat is that drummer playing?? That's not how the fucking song even goes. The funny part is, Larry Mullen Jr doesn't know how to play drums in the first place, like literally. This guy couldn't even do that, and it's the simplest drums ever. This dude is playing some weird kind of sashe.

Joe hate aside, how do you feel fulfilled as a musician being in a cover band?

Definitely, I love a good live band in a bar. But saying we are X band's cover band and imitating them directly is awful.

What do you expect from the brother of a guy who lives off Dice impressions?

Right, that's more what I'm getting at. Like the guy pretending to be Bono is cringe-inducing.

And the fat fuck Edge stinks.

Keyword is "good" though. 2U is not.

Today Yonkers, tomorrow Trant's backyard!

I am in absolute disgust about that vocalist. Fuck you Joseph for accepting such garbage.
2 CowsAreCurious 2016-03-16
If it makes you feel better, us getting those gigs cancelled is hurting their singer as well.
2 NoirMagieGateau 2016-03-16
He can always sing and showboat without a gig though. I want him dealt with.

How many years playing the guitar does he have?

The crowd are on their feet!
Oh, they're sitting down.

That vocalist needs to blow his nose before he gets on stage. Jesus.
