How did Jim Norton get fucked over so hard?

4  2016-03-11 by [deleted]

When I first started listening to Opie and Anthony, I was surprised that Jim's name wasn't in the title somehow. Jim was the most famous of the three. I had never heard of O&A. Jim was the star of the show. He always has been. It's crazy that he always made less money than those hacks. I would hate to see him leave the show and fail because he isn't in top form anymore- but that is what will probably happen. Jim Norton really fucked up his career. He should have separated from O&A years ago when he still had some fame.

when did jim norton have fame?

He was on TV sometimes back this one time.

I wouldn't call him famous, but he's the reason I began checking out the show (due to seeing him on Tough Crowd). He's always been by far my favorite of the three. Found Anthony funny, but hated the Opster immediately.

He was on Comedy Central a lot. He was in a relatively small group of comedians that were on TV regularly. That was before the internet and billions of options that are out there now so he was very well known.

tough crowd wasn't as popular as we think it was. just because we loved it. i've asked other people about it, and they were like "oh yea......that one show that came on late at night where the comedians yelled out stuff." It was only on for two years. It probably helped sell tickets, but I never considered Norton even remotely famous. If anything all his appearances on Louie are more valuable then his entire run on tough crowd.

He wasn't just on tough crowd. He was on all the stand up shows when comedy central was mostly stand up comedy.

like what?

People don't remember this, but Comedy Central was originally all about Stand Up Comedy (much like MTV was about music). There were about 1 or 2 shows that weren't stand up like Mystery Science Theatre and some other show about old horror films (then, much later, there was Politically Incorrect and then South Park which blew Comedy Central up to what it is now) There was a show called Short Attention Span Theatre (I think marc maron hosted) and other similar shows that were just clips of stand up comedians. And other networks had stand up shows. Vh1 had Stand Up Spotlight for example. I'm pretty sure that the networks did too. Anyway, people recognized Jim Norton's face.

I believe that he was also on Stand Up Spotlight on VH1.

Yea but when Norton was on comedy central it was really all about South Park, Chappelle Show, Daily Show. You're talking about shows no one remembers, and I'm not sure what clips they would even use. None of these shows are in his credits, and he never did a comedy central half hour. Over the last few years Norton has been on Louie, Inside Amy Schumer, Chelsea Lately, and probably a bunch of those fox news panel dogshit shows. He's probably more recognized from those than anything he's ever done besides maybe to O&A fans.

I knew him long before I ever heard of O&A. The first O&A clip I heard was somebody on Reddit posted the trashing of that movie where Rosie O'Donnell plays a retard who rides the bus. I'd never even heard of Opie and Anthony, listening to that I instantly recognized Norton from tough crowd and his standup specials.

🍞🍞

I keep expecting to see a Vos plug at the end of every paragraph now.

he stinks and i don't like him

I've been listening since 98. I had no clue who Jim was when he first started doing the show. I would say his biggest moment of "fame" was when he was doing stuff for Leno.

Hi Jim

That's what happens when you get beat down by AA for 30 years convincing yourself you're an alcoholic with no self-esteem for drinking a bottle of Zima.

From listening for so many years, I got that he never wanted his name on the show or the responsibility. He's always been a touring comic and he left on the days he needed to. He wasn't fucked over.

Lol should have left. He'd be nothing without o&a.

Sounds like he fucked himself over.

Exactly.

jim's done. its about time. theres no room in this america for a 5ft2" bridgetroll who's scared of alcohol, rims trannys but tries to be relevant. he sucks.

I remember that he was pissed that his name wasn't in the O&A intro, so they inserted Lady Di's "Is this Jim Norton"?
