Why is Opie so whipped by the Stangels?

Sorry to diverge from the current anthony drama but I was listening to today's pete davidson audio and the thing that struck me most was how Opie seemed almost afraid of dealing with J & E later. And he said several times "they reeeally helped me out the past year and a half"

Pete says it as a joke but from what I can tell they literally just sit in the back and google things. I know the theory is they wrote stuff for him to say but I listened to most of the first post-ant year and he didn't seem any funnier/less funny than usual. I don't think that's it.

What do they do and why is Opie so scared to lose them??

Because he has no idea how to do a show after 70 years in radio!!

He is incompetent, terrible with managing people and untalented.

He was hoping the Stangels would write him into Howard's seat!

Opie has a bit of a codependency problem, in case you've not noticed.

I would assume it's because it was his idea/decision to hire them in the first place.

I think it's more of a personal thing. He's longtime friends with them. Here he is supporting them at the 2007 writer's strike. I think Justin said they knew him for about 10 years, or that was even just up until Opie was married. They do do actual producing too besides just googling stuff, but seeing how that drunken bum Chris Stanley can do the same, it's not that impressive.

How in the fuck did you find that link? Good find. They likely are the only friends he has outside of Bam's home.

I listened to the clip also and my impression was that the Opester was trying to bring the discussion back to himself.
