While Bennington isn't as good as R&F was, I still appreciate what Ron is trying to do. He saw that his partner was leaving, so he looked to do a different format while dragging Hicks along for some needed comedy between art and music talk. Compare that to Opie, while admittedly not having the warning, who after an entire year still doesn't know what he wants his show to be. I dont listen to Opie and Jim, but from what I've heard the new format is "Gossip show with Jim going through the motions".
I'm lucky that I only got into R&F at the suggestion of this sub. When I listen to his current show I laugh a lot. Then when I listen to his older shows w' Fez he's from another planet and I nearly vomit from laughter.
I like it, completely ditched O&J 6 months ago and now only listen to Bennington & The Bonfire with TACN sprinkled in. Sometimes they do get a little too hipstery for me. For example I couldn't listen to the David Bowie shit, they were actually crying. Chris is great fodder.
Ive been listening to Ron and Fez since the .com days and even through syndication underground when they went to DC..the show isnt what it used to be but its still entertaining most days. Ron is a great interviewer and entertainer, he can make anyone or anything at least somewhat listenable.
Opie should have tried to get Ron when Tony got the boot. But hes too dumb or too much of an egomaniac.
Its the only show i look forward to listening to with the expectation of it being consistently amusing. Its a funny silly show and run is the best radio guy maybe ever.
They're still workshopping and trying to build a roster of guests they can rely on.
It's hard to do on satellite radio. The callers are garbage. The audience is stagnate. They can't have yokels wander in off the street. And they don't really have an in with local comedians beyond Gurian.
Ron & Fez took three years to figure out their dynamic before they hit their stride.
Gail still has to figure out her voice. Chris still has to melt into his crazy character. And Ron still has to break bad habits from the past four years of Ron & Fez where he had to drag a dead corpse over the finish line every day by himself.
Even if they never figure it out, the talent of Ron elevates the show beyond the garbage you mongrel retards make fun of.
Ron and Fez was my favorite radio show of all time and I think Ron Bennington is absolutely amazing, but the show is too dry. It may not be for me, but it isn't aggressively bad and after all the years of incredible radio, Ron is free to do whatever show he'd like.
I was just thinking about this, hate the food talk, hate music talk (about old bands everyones supposed to like) it is kinda boring lately... Liked when Fez was on beefing with everyone. Also hate when Ron starts to sing end everyone else instantly start singling along w him. Also Gail takes forever to talk sometimes, like pausing. I do listen all the time since i stopped OnJ unless someone posts a specific OnJ clip thats good
I download it and forward through the hipster music talk and boring girls they bring in as guests all the time for some reason. When u do that,it's pretty good.
I love Ronnie, but hiring his cunt of an unfunny, uninteresting daughter was a bad move. Nepotism is always a great idea. They named a sandwich after her, you know.
