Daniel Tosh mentioned the Joke Police

6  2016-02-10 by DaveNone

Just watched the new episode of Tosh.0 and he talked about Carlos Mencia, Denis Leary and Robin Williams being accused of stealing jokes and then he briefly made mention of Amy Schumer stealing jokes and bits and her movie Trainwreck. He also said she used his Babe Ruth bit in her movie. Not sure what that bit was, if it even exists or he was just goofing around. He then went off on a tangent about Bill Cosby.

Did he play any internet videos and add his own whacky commentary?

He stole that from Patricky.

here is tosh's bit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg_0crBGmU8 i didn't watch trainwreck and cant seem to find anything on google

Sports is not just a plot detail surrounding an analysis of Amy's racist comment in "Trainwreck", it's primarily the center of the discussion. This hilarious exchange between Gordon, Amy’s father played by Colin Quinn and his assisted living facility friend, Norman about how race puts an asterisk on the career of one of the greatest sports figures of all-time

Norman “Babe Ruth was Superman." Gordon “Easy to be Superman when you haven’t played against a Black guy your whole life.” Norman "What does white/Black got to do with it?" Gordon “Every 12 year old kid in the Dominican Republic could probably beat Babe Ruth.”

if you are going to steal, at least make your version funny.

That Babe Ruth bit was done by Burr on his podcast about 2 years ago. I'm sure Kurt and the other hack Schumer writers listen to Burr's podcast.

Apparently Tosh did it before Burr. So did Bill Burr steal too? Or is this just some massive parallel thinking happening?

And for the record, Babe Ruth would have hit homers against black players as well as he did white players. It took Hank Aaron 2500 more at bats to break Ruths record.

IDK and good point about Ruth

Surely you have heard that premise from more than just those 2.

Yeah. Agreed.

I'm not sure that she's a thief (a joke thief. She's definitely a thief).

I think she's simply a minimal talent that's being pushed on the public because she sells well to particular demographics.

The real problem is what it exposes about the comedy world.

For a group of people who talk about how "civilians" don't have the skill to make jokes, we end up with the top comedy film of the year, probably the most famous stand-up comedian in the world right now, and a Peabody and Emmy awarding show, all filled with hacky jokes and unoriginal thinking.

Kurt Metzger complained about the "fucking magician" who is accusing Amy and the writers of stealing. If they didn't steal, you still end up with the fact that a group of people who are supposedly the great comedic minds of their generation came up with the same idea as a "civilian" and, despite a huge budget, actually executed it more poorly.

For all their years in the business, there are very few comedians out there who write jokes or sketches that aren't entirely generic, and that includes the top tier.

The sickening thing is when Amy Schumer gets described by people, like Judd Apatow, as one of the greatest joke writers in the world. I can't think of a single really great Amy Schumer joke or one original premise. Most of them are embarassingly bad. She literally did the "Everyone has that one slutty friend in their group, and if you don't have that friend...then it's you" joke in her last special.

Did he actually say asterisk in the movie? They could easily have checked that. Stealing is for lazy people.
