The abrupt starts to the show since the OvJ argument are hilarious
61 2016-02-03 by illydelph
It makes me laugh every day. Remember the old days when the first 30 minutes or so of the show was just easing into the day and ball busting and shooting the shit? Now it goes like this:
- song ends
- Tits thanks random Twitter person for song
- Tits says how he was ALL-IN with <insert band from song> but kind of lost interest but needs to get back into them!
- Launch straight into whatever topic #1 on the Prepburger sheet in front of him is.
I turn the show on now at 7:04am and they're in the middle of a heavy political topic, and the first 3 minutes was the song. That's the chemistree brotha-man!

I bet eye contact is non existent between Jim and tits now. The awkward tension has probably resulted in Jim twitching like Uncle Paul in a crèche.

Or like Jim Norton in front of a camera.

Oh yeah I remember the days of listening to Opie whine incessantly about whatever minor problem there was that day, Anthony too hungover and passive about it to care... don't let your glasses get too rose colored, certainly there were those mornings but more often than not it was complaints about management/syndication/Howard/the merger/negotiatons... if we were lucky they would waste it off letting the farm team bicker while they read Twitter and Paltalk. If you were around back in "the old days" you would've welcomed this pep in their step with open arms and praises of gratitude. It's a complete shame Anthony is not there right now because they're actually putting full gas into the show and it would be 10x better with the version of him that was still funny cohosting

So pretty much your point is Anthony hungover and barely paying attention is still better than Opie giving it his all.

Yep.
It's really obvious that Opie is trying to relate to Jimmy, though it's still awkward.
3 braunheiser 2016-02-03
Yeah in the end they'll always need Ant there. He makes Opie feel like a pussy when he does his half-a-man reality show garbage material. and for that matter Ant needs Opie to pester and poke him into being humble. Not that it matters because the egos are too big for anything to happen, but you can just tell how they hit that ceiling that they cant get above no matter what they do, the ceiling that with Ant wasnt there at all. But like you said at least now they are back to TRYing to hit it. Instead of what was going on before 12/01

Its a 20 year old show though, leave it.
4 braunheiser 2016-02-03
If they're going to go on the air every morning (or afternoon) still I'd hope they attempt to do at least a vaguely similar style of show they they built the whole fanbase on
-8 pabben2 2016-02-03
They dont owe you jack shit though, everyone here are so entitled.
Just listen to the old shows? I listen to about 8-9hours a day at work and 80% of it is between 2002-2013ish. Couldnt care less if theyre broken up now, what do you expect, its 20 fucking years old, nothing stays the same for that amount of time.
Now theyre a couple of old farts and barely have 30% of the energy they used to have.

They don't owe me anything, it doesn't change what I am going to say on message boards about what they're doing now. I don't like listening to reruns all day. If you don't like what you read here, read something else maybe? Why would you come to a current day-to-day message board for a show you only listen to reruns of by yourself? Just click that playlist and go enjoy your tapes :) I remember listening to my first full shows too
-6 pabben2 2016-02-03
If you dont like the show, move on?
Basically what youre saying youre only here cause you like the drama? And pls dont come with that "I remember listening to my first shows" argument, thats pretty cringeworthy.
But go ahead old man, keep tapping your keyboard one handed and enjoy the bandwagon drama, ya sheep!
4 braunheiser 2016-02-03
You've been listening to way too many reruns lately, youre picking up all of Opie's mannerisms. Maybe 8-9 hours per day worth of reruns is a little bit much, your vagina puddle is getting everywhere today!
-4 pabben2 2016-02-03
Dang! That was some heavy roasting you did there grandpa. Tell your friends about it.

a lot of people are here because they like the drama, you fucking doofus.
1 Sicboy69 2016-02-03
Wow you actually listen to 8-9 hours of just Opie & Anthony/Jimmy a day??!!! I realize now I never must have never been a real fan of anything in my life, even when I loved the show I might have listened to 10-15 hours a week & that wasn't even most weeks.
1 pabben2 2016-02-03
Yeah, I havent listened to the shows past 2014 though except here and there. Mostly around 2004-2008ish +/- a couple of years.
Wouldnt call myself a superfan just average dude with awful boring work.
3 JadedRefHopOn 2016-02-03
Yeah, nothing like the good old times where Anthony takes calls for two straight days bashing Obamacare. Man, that was some good radio.
2 BigDummyIsSexy 2016-02-03
Does that guy still exist? If those two could get over their ridiculously petty bullshit, I wonder if what's left of Anthony could ever get his groove back. He's aged 10 years in 18 months and hasn't had anyone around that can challenge him (well, except for Dani lol). He hasn't yelled at a caller or debated Jimmy since summer 2014. He needs a fire lit under his ass outside of court.
1 braunheiser 2016-02-03
Yeah that's all true I wonder it too. It would take him some time to warm up and his outside of the show life would probably need a little better order too it only because of how having it get crazy got him into shit with his reputation etc... I think just a little less drinking and a few weeks/month or two back in there, Opie would also need to accept the fact that Jim and Ant are going to have the more chemistreeee otherwise there will be tension regardless of how good Anthony sounds again. But if those things happened (it's practically like talking about a fiction book since this stuff is 99% chance never going to happen) it would start to come together again
13 867-5309- 2016-02-03
The other big change is that they almost always have an outside guest in at the very start of the show so it's rarely just the two of them on the air together.
78 kgt5003 2016-02-03
And I've noticed that the Anthony fella hasn't been around much lately either.
44 [deleted] 2016-02-03
Now that you mention it, Patrice hasn't stopped by much lately either.

2 danimalplanimal 2016-02-03
At this point I don't even consider JF or PD outsiders...they're on the show more than Jimmy at this point
12 opieanthonyjim 2016-02-03
Opie's obsession with starting every show coming out of a record is enraging.
10 FoetusCorruptus 2016-02-03
I enjoy the awkward starts. Opie's obsession with metal covers of non-metal songs, on the other hand, make me want to poison my family.
8 _AVLX_ 2016-02-03
Opie's taste in music really does warrant a Chris Benoit-esque tragedy.
2 sanfrancisco69er 2016-02-03
lol I remember troy did one like 8 months ago when I still listened and Opie acted like he had tapped into some never before seen genius. He has no idea how stale that and "punk covers" have been for almost decades now.

7 dflorio 2016-02-03
I listen everyday and they seem fine.
22 Binski13 2016-02-03
That's not the narrative we like to paint around here sir.
4 danimalplanimal 2016-02-03
Well not so fast...."fine" is actually a pretty good way to describe it at its best....as long as you shrug and make the Dam Soder billboard face when you say it
5 DapperDan0979 2016-02-03
Sometimes I feel like that.
But then you hear the fight they got in and they say all the shit we've been speculating on and it's like "oh ok, good, it's not just in our heads"
4 lickitoff 2016-02-03
Ha! Like that's the goal of these two "Masters of Edginess"
7 treader19 2016-02-03
I am so sick of the Mediaite , who the fuck cares. Loving everything when a person comes in. Radiohead, i love them... enough. i was a strong Opie supporter, but i guess i am late to the hate.
7 RacistPigeon 2016-02-03
Welcome, help yourself, there's plenty for everyone.
3 ChurchOfBaldOpie 2016-02-03
Just curious, what made you a strong supporter? Is it the way he'd put the brakes on a bit? Or the way he'd get angry with any joke at his expense? Maybe the awkward phrases he pushes into the conversation when he feels he's being left out/doesn't get it? Did you feel the cockroach breakfast was a thing of genius? I am curious as I remember when I first heard the show, I immediately singled one out as shit, even before I knew who was who. It was just apparent
4 treader19 2016-02-03
back in the day, i thought his comfortableness with guests, the damage he created and whatnot was key to the show. Seperated from Anthony, he returned to the normal radio schtick which is getting old. I mean between both Ant and Opie, it really show that the sum of the parts isn't equal to the whole at all.
7 twelder711 2016-02-03
haven't listened in a year, won't anytime soon apparently
7 Come_Honor_Cheeks 2016-02-03
I can't believe people are still listening to that show. I'd rather listen to porpoises getting chainsawed to death while Shaquille O'Neal sodomizes my dear old grandma in the foreground than that piece of trash show. Also, RIP grandma
6 danimalplanimal 2016-02-03
Don't forget, without fail..."Aahhhhhgooooood morning everybody....."
5 ISteerTheShip 2016-02-03
Also, notice how since the fight Tits chuckles at Uncle Paul? He used to stay quiet and even said he didn't like Uncle Paul during the fight I believe. Now he forces a chuckle to "make nice" with Worm so he doesn't slither away in October.
3 ChurchOfBaldOpie 2016-02-03
So Jimmy has done Uncle Paul since? The only listening i do these days is the bits and excerpts posted here - and I have a channel on internet radio that does like 24 hours a day of O&J, it's just too shitty to listen to.
3 JoeCumiaSr 2016-02-03

2 sanfrancisco69er 2016-02-03
Does he really still say he's all-in? I hate him as much as the next guy but just for the sake of accuracy, the last few months I listened he seemed to stop saying that completely.
3 FoetusCorruptus 2016-02-03
And why do you think that is? Because we made fun of him for it. We're trying to build a better Opie.
1 sanfrancisco69er 2016-02-03
so why still do it? its like saying " i get no respect" doing a rodney dangerfield impression. do something that makes fun of him now.
