Amongst the Jews, the Jewishness only passes down from the mothers side. So a jew woman and a catholic man, the child is considered jewish by jews. But a catholic woman and a jew man, the child is considered non jewish by jews. But they can also convert and become jews, so if Amy did that then she could in fact be a jew.
