Anyone else think its weird that in Louis and Zach Galifiankis's new show, the main character's name is Chip?

I know Louis didnt steal from Jimmy, and Zach doesn't know who he is, but Louis knows Jimmy has the market cornered in the Chip-is-a-funny-name department...did he just forget about him completely?

Louie named a TV character Chip, he hasnt been way too big for Jimmy for that long, they even went to the ufc thing recently...as a favor to jim, why wouldn't he just pick a different name?

One of Jim's biggest thing he has going for him is a character he does named Chip. If this show gets big, there is the potential for a lot of people to know Zach Galifianakis as Chip, and it would be because of his friend Louis, CK. You don't think that would be a little awkward to him?

No not at all. Just because Jimmy created a character that has a name doesn't mean his friends can never use the name in a show. It's not like Jimmy invented the name Chip.

They used Chip because it's a funny name, which Jim has popularized for a long time. And Louis knew that and used it for the same reason anyway in his show that has the potential to be very popular. You have some kind of agenda the other way if you don't see that.

Jim did a character first and it was named Chip. If the fucking character is nothing like Chip then Louis can name it Chip, there are more well known people named Chip in the world than Jim's character. Most people who will watch Louis' show probably won't know who the fuck Chip Chipperson is. Jim's character is not enjoyed by the fans because his name is Chip, its because of the content of the character. I dont know, but you are trying not to see it. Part of the funniness of Chip is that the name is stupid, which is exactly what Louie was going for with this character. It's a small thing, I'm not saying Jim has the right to sue. But Louie obviously knew Jim has already gotten the humor out of the name Chip and completely disregarded it.

I don't even think Chip is a funny name! The only humorous thing about Chip's name is that his last name is Chipperson, thats the joke in his name is that its Chip Chipperson. Chip is a fucking name and anybody who would laugh at or love a show because the character's first name is Chip would have to either be a child or be mentally retarded.

They aren't riding the whole show on the character's name being funny, they just gave him a funny one. And Chip is an unfortunate, awful, funny name which adds to the appeal of both characters unfortunate nature. If Louis thought of Jim whatsoever, when brainstorming funny name, he would have thought of another one. Youre acting like this is a big thing, it's a very small one, just Louis was obviously not thinking of Jim. Chip is a funny name.

no he doesnt. there will be times, though, when chip pops up, instead of saying TSS and whassast will make references from this show. not a big deal, sure, but what is bob kelly got a show and the main silly character's name was Chip? Wouldnt you kinda be like, "huh? why would he name him that" well louis was basically just as close to the character. something as little as a name, why not just change it, when your friend uses the same quirky name?

they do Chip puns and use the name chip because it is funny as is commonly agreed on by everyone except you. And Louis is the show creator and his name is part of the show's name, he had a say in it.

I've never heard anyone agree that Chip is a funny name. Happy that the name Chip makes you laugh. I'm not saying Louis doesn't have a say in it, I'm saying that if the writers or Zach wanted the name to be Chip Louis probably wouldn't even think of Jim and his radio character and even if he didn't probably wouldn't think it was a big enough deal to where it needed to be changed.

You've never seen people (especially zach galifianakis) use mildly silly/funny names for tv characters before? thats what happened here if it needed to be pointed out to you. Yes, Louis didn't think of Jim here. If Jim was more important to Louis, he probably would have. Chip as a silly characters name is JIMS THING. Whether it's a common name or it will effect anyone at all doesnt matter. It's Jims thing and Louis didn't give it a thought at all.

You don't have to laugh to notice someone's intention in a TV decision, And Louis isn't "nobody ever" he's one of the comedians thats been tied most closely with Jimmy over the past few years. And it's the use of the name, not what the character is Jimmy's thing here, he's used it in funny examples long before the character. If Bob Kelly had a show and the character was named chip and they made chip puns it would be weird. Maybe not a reason to change it, but Louis new "Chip" as a name was Jim's thing and didnt care. That's really all there is to it, you are obviously just not well versed in funny names.

I said it's a goofy name, you claimed that the fact that Chip is the name of the character is what makes the character funny. If it came out that Louis was the one who wrote that character and created the name then I MIGHT get where your coming from but none of us even know if Louis is the one who named the character. I never said it was what made either character funny, just theyre obviously going to pull out all the stops and a funny name is one of them.
