Stop trying to fool yourselves into thinking Big Jay and LOS are the "next generation" after O&A. They're not. They fucking stink.

It's like watching a bunch of insecure university student stoners trying to one-up each other, its fucking embarassing. None of them have any sort of wisdom to share, and none of them have the potential to be half as funny as Norton. Patrice would HATE where this is all headed.

Big Jay is pretty goddamn funny. The Bonfire is great. The only problem I have with the Bonfire is that it's sort of like if norton and anthony had a show. big jay and soder are just riffing back and forth for the entire show. it's funny, but it's not as entertaining as O&A which was conversational, but was still a show.

The awkward fake laughing when he was gone and 3 nobodies were in.
After a "joke":
As we all know, you have to use that phrase when stuff is funny. There's no non-verbal way of showing it or anything.

The guy sitting in the middle making everything into a men are evil point of view got old after maybe 10 minutes.
2 dickkream_kumia 2016-01-16
i totally forgot about bonfire so i went and listen to a recent ep, an hr in and they are still taking calls with"dirty girls" talking about how they love to suck and fuck, then big jay was trying to get a caller into a 3 three with him, i dont like it
1 WiretapStudios 2016-01-16
Yeah, that wasn't a good episode, probably the worst one I've heard. I'd give it another shot. I hope they don't keep up with that, I'm a huge fan of the show, and especially Soder, but that talk gets boring fast.
1 dickkream_kumia 2016-01-16
i tried some new eps after that, and they had their intern in to talk about his relationship, then its pussy talk again, dont think this show is for me
and i was listening to some of that beginnton, 5 min in ronnie already complaining about how the new shit suck, new music suck, kids are too soft etc. they shouldve called it raw dog raqio

The bonfire is bearable. Not even close to great.
-6 cakehornnigga 2016-01-16
The bonfire stinks, too. Not sure why it gets so much love here. I love Dan and Jay, but what's so great about the show? Dan does wrestler impressions which I don't know or care about. Jay can be funny, but he isn't like Ronnie B or Jimmy who have interesting opinions on things. Listened to 2 shows, haven't listened since.
4 ChurchOfBaldOpie 2016-01-16
Same here. I listened to maybe the first ten episodes of The Bonfire waiting to see how the show would shape out, haven't been back since. It didn't have enough going on.
27 dont_dox-me_bro 2016-01-16
Go back and listen to O&A two or three years into their show. Bra bombings and fake prank calls. LOS and Bonfire are leagues above the first 10 years of O&A.
9 cakehornnigga 2016-01-16
Because they had the chance to see how hacky that shock jock stuff was. When O+A were starting that's what was working, stupid pranks and shit.
9 JMueller2012 2016-01-16
It's weird because people praise the Pat Duffy/stunt era all the time and I always found it to be hack and like everyone in the show was on a Jackass kick and it just came off so try hard and douchey
3 check_checkerson 2016-01-16
The one thing I don't understand is that people love the censored dirty word stuff, they used to spend 10 minute trying to say penis, "the place where you knock on a firemans helmet and it spit at you", I really appreciate xm and podcast when people can just say dick and move on
2 RockCoatMon 2016-01-16
I only enjoyed the censored thing when Norton did it. He knew how to make it funny by being overly descriptive in a roundabout fashion, that fireman line for example actually made me laugh reading it. But shit like "junk" or "funbags" makes me cringe.
That being said, Jimmy uncensored is a better version than censored Jimmy for sure. It was all just a ratings thing, satellite never really took off the way everyone expected it to.

20 jonesy6969 2016-01-16
i feel like the expiration date on just listening to people hanging out is close. when i listen to old O&A or old Howard it's not just "a hang". there's conversation, but there's a bunch of other stuff happening too. I have less and less interest in hearing 3 or 4 stoned dudes in a room sharing their life philosophies about cereal, and stomping each others punchlines. LOS tries to do some "bits" but they hype them up so much they're usually disappointing.
10 ChurchOfBaldOpie 2016-01-16
That's kinda the thing.... It doesn't feel like there's a lot going on with a lot of these podcasts. I always enjoyed when OnA would fuck with something being filmed live... Shit Jocktober was like a month long event. And of course one of the best parts of Jocktober was some of us shutting down comment sections/Facebook pages, etc. Is there everything even remotely close out there?

Holy fuck that's the biggest exaggeration I've ever seen. No, he's not one of the funniest stand ups of his generation. He's fine, he's okay. Not great definitely not one of the best.
1 RockCoatMon 2016-01-16
I did hear from a bunch of comics that his crowd work was amazing. Although these comics are nobodies to you guys so that could mean nothing.
1 opieanthonyjim 2016-01-16
So amazing crowd work makes you one of the best of your generation? So is Vos the best of his generation?
-1 sldsnak04 2016-01-16
He has to be one of the worst story tellers I've ever heard. His special will probably be very underwhelming.
12 braunheiser 2016-01-16
I don't think they can compete with old O&A but I do like to check in to their show week by week, I get some laughs out of it and even if things are awkward or cringey that's entertainment just in a different way. Most importantly with LOS I just appreciate the fact that they try to put on a good show when they get behind a mic. They might do it from time to time but they don't approach their shows with the mindset of half assing it and coasting through. There's no over the top radio voice guys no corny morning zoo stuff, they talk about a lot of different topics, and I can watch them live. What's the alternative, reruns all the time? Joe Rogan puts me to sleep, as does a lot of podcasts with the whole calm slow pace conversation atmosphere they have. LOS chaos and tons of voices, as far as the podcast world goes imo is refreshing. Was the Patrice line meant to be sarcastic? I think if I'm not mistaken Patrice and Big Jay were cool, if he were still alive I could easily see him holding lectures to the whole room full of people on LOS from time to time

I love Legion of Skanks. Favorite podcast and maybe it's because I'm such a comedy nerd but I love when they talk industry. They're not afraid to trash anyone like most comics on O&A tend to do. There was an episode where they literally spent half of it asking the audience what they saw in Gabriel Iglesias. And I remember one where Jay trashed Bob Saget pretty good
Big Jay is my favorite comedian currently and it's good to see him get momentum.
3 charliemccarthy 2016-01-16
What did he say about Saget?
3 JMueller2012 2016-01-16
"Hey, he's a clean sitcom dad on television but in the comedy club he's dropping all the cusses!"
Basically called him a phony bore, and not a real edgy comic that he makes himself out to be. Now that I think, Jay probably hates him even more because Jay himself is a dirty comic
4 charliemccarthy 2016-01-16
Saget was a dirty comic before Full House. When he was a sitcom dad there was a clause in his contract for him to be a clean standup. Now that he's done with that shit he can be himself on stage again. I saw Saget a few years back and he killed.

HATE Big Jays gloves, styles hair w gel in it, his "image" w nose rings and plucked eyebrows.... wtf dude.
8 jonesy6969 2016-01-16
It doesn't make him any less funny, but Big Jay is always about 10 years behind whatever 22 yr olds are wearing. well into the 2000s he grew his hair long, and started to dress like a nu metal fat guy, and in 2015 he got his first greasy fohawk, and just wears dirty eagles jerseys. i strongly believe in being whoever you are, but you would think he would be aware that it would be harder to get gigs on tv shows or movies if you look like the older fat guy at a staind concert who retired from moshing, but drinks 18 bud lites at the show.
7 LithiumAM 2016-01-16

Bonfire was funny for a few weeks, and then you suddenly realize how hard it is to be consistently funny for long periods of time, because they are already repeating stories and hitting the same jokes and it's been what, a few months?

There is nothing that even comes close to O&A as far as comedy and entertainment value goes. Not LOS, not TACS, not O&J and sorry, but not The Bonfire.
4 ManHash 2016-01-16
How about Stern from the olden days?
6 [deleted] 2016-01-16
best years of stern are better than the best years of O&A. I mean I know a lot of people reflexively hate him now but come on.
3 CuckECheese 2016-01-16
I honestly don't get the hype on Howard. Sure, he definitely put the whole "shock jock" thing on the map but I can't stomach listening to his self praise every 2 minutes.
3 ManHash 2016-01-16
I agree, some of things that happened on that show had my jaw hitting the floor. Not only funny, but always surprising and smart.

3 kevin121312 2016-01-16
I haven't listened to whole shows of The Bonfire, but I've heard a few clips and that could be the next generation, but luis and dave are going nowhere.
-1 bizzlbone 2016-01-16
Dave might get a show on Fox
3 TacoTrots 2016-01-16
I find it hard to believe that Fox would invest in a show where one unknown comic constantly does an impersonation of another unknown comic.

3 TayNez 2016-01-16
I gave LOS a chance and now I rarely, if ever, listen. Love Big Jay, though. He's one of my favourite broadcasters ATM. I have nothing against Luis or Dave, but they're deadweight. They just exude mediocrity.
2 Ant_Sucks 2016-01-16
I've also thought the same. They're the comedy equivalent of those folk bands that just crowd all their friends and girlfriends on stage, no matter what instrument they play. Even if they can't play they'll have someone doing the maracas.
1 Really_Big_Dummy 2016-01-16
So, if O and A were Nirvana L.O.S. are The Polyphonic Spree
1 Ant_Sucks 2016-01-16
LOL close. They're too coordinated, and not enough useless fuckers on maracas.
I'm talking about Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. An uncoordinated mess and they keep a minimum of two useless fuckers on the maraca bell stick things at all times.
1 Really_Big_Dummy 2016-01-16
Both those singers are annoying as fuck. Particularly the spastic grinning one that I truly cannot tell if is a man or woman, But also the singer ...put a shirt on and shave that rat nest you petulie smelling pervert! All the musicians styles are so cliche and similar that I can only think they were told to dress like that by the singer or who knows. They look like they all bought clothes from the same expensive boutique beatnik-line of clothes. Also there are way too many beatles references or similarities for me to bother mentioning...and the crowd...how boring do they look. Oh fuck its NPR...now i see...man those tiny desk shows or whatever are all awfulllllll. what boring trendy shit.
2 SpaceEdge 2016-01-16
I said this in the other thread but I'll say it again here. Ever since they started doing two shows a week. They seem like they aren't into it as much. I get that vibe from Big Jay the most.
2 whydontUlovemeLyndsi 2016-01-16
It was so good when it was the first 10 or so pre-recorded shows, and then the first 10 live shows were great. But I'm sick of hearing the same conversation every fucking episode now with the same barely-amusing jokes.
Or
I was making my way through the shows that I missed while doing christmas shit and I was finding myself utterly bored by the episode where they're making the uninteresting interns guess songs from a band nobody cares about. Real Opie shit right there. But then one of them always manages to sneak in a fuckin' knockout punch. I was getting bored of Jay talking about "Skinny-guys-with-long-hair dick" on episode 43 today and was about to shut it off when he brought out his Charlie Sheen voice and had me rolling on the floor like an overexaggerating faggot.
2 jonesy6969 2016-01-16
yea i agree with it. they're both hilarious, but it just seems like it doesn't go anywhere. big jay might not be aware of how much he talks about dongs. it's funny, but after a while it's kind of like hearing norton talk about trannys.
1 ChurchOfBaldOpie 2016-01-16

1 glyde69 2016-01-16
I kinda like them.
1 whatisthishere 2016-01-16
They are perfect for appealing to a certain young male crowd. It's probably a similar demographic to the one O&A originally went for. If you've been an O&A fan for awhile you probably are older than their demo. I like Joe Rogan, but I would guess most of his fan base are the same people that would like these guys. Teenage, maybe young 20s, stoner, punk guys, who consider themselves smart, cool, alternatives.
1 shinkleboutit 2016-01-16
You mean they make movie references that aren't 30+ years old?
1 panjshirlion 2016-01-16
They're still too young to have the bitterness and disdain for the audience that O&A had in the later years. They're light-years ahead of where O&A were in the comparable period of their careers.
1 QuantumTabby 2016-01-16
The OnA subreddit is transitioning into r/crankyoldmen.

1 19headaches 2016-01-16

1 RockCoatMon 2016-01-16
I hate "hangs" so fucking much. O&A was a full fledged show. Tough Crowd was a full fledged show.
Both O&J and TACS, as well as LOS and YKWD, are just a bunch of guys having irrelevant, occasionally semi-interesting conversation. It fucking sucks and I can't listen to any of it. At least Joe Rogan actually interviews interesting people, and even that is shit compared to the high standards old school O&A have set in our minds.
Why, why won't any of these assholes even try a little bit? FUCKING SHOW PREP. Goddammit, there is such a void in this part of show-business right now and it would only take one person to try to do it right and he'd get so much attention. Aren't these dicks trying to be famous? Then put a little work in for once.
0 Yousirnames76534577 2016-01-16

-4 brmlb 2016-01-16
you have to give them a chance to get old, and gain wisdom.
In 10-20 years, some of them WILL be as good on the radio as Howard/Bennington/Norton/Artie/Anthony/Opie etc. Give them time.
