Sam fills the Opie role except he doesn't suck at it. If you listen to Nopie shows, he keeps Ant and Jim from going on tangents, which is half the reason Ant and Jim on TACS is not as good. The other half is because Ant and Jim have lost the vibe they used to have because they don't work together every day anymore, so every show they do together now feels like they're catching up with each other.
I didn't even listen to it and I almost instanly knew that's what he said. People hear what they want to hear and then run to reddit to transcribe it, wrongly to be part of the circle jerk.
You missed that he started the sentence with the word IF. I just played it back on-demand and his exact words were:
"If Opie and I didn't work together anymore, I may work with Ant, or I may literally do a podcast myself and get out of radio. I don't know what I want to do at the end of the contract. I'm having a great time and I love performing on the radio. I love it. But I've had enough people tell me, like, I'm 47, why don't I just do my own show? It has nothing to do with Opie. It has nothing to do with Anthony. So that's something that I've thought a lot about."
He then went on to say that even if Ant's situation hadn't happened and even if he hadn't had the argument with Opie that it's still something that he's been thinking about.
Sam is just better at radio than Opie. PERIOD. And he knows how to handle Jim and his characters. Listening to Opie is just getting more painful and I'm NOT a big hater. He just stumbles over every word now punctuating everything with plenty of uhs, umms and you knows. Its like listening to someone who's never spoken in public before. Whether he's an idiot or not, its just very odd that he's losing his ability to speak at all.
If we're lucky.. Have you heard the last two shows? Last week was three broads talking about their periods for an hour, and the show before that had three black dudes babbling over each other the entire show. They fucking stunk. I'd take Luis and Kelly Fastuca over that shit any day.
If they kept it down to a maximum of 2-3 guests (who were actually booked for a reason, as opposed to just accepting every open mic cunt who asks), that show would be an immediate contender for best podcast.
Sam Roberts is cunning and savvy enough to know that as one of several producer for OpieRaqio he gets to collect a paycheck while being absolved of any guilt in the shows tortured, heaving breakdown. He will not put his name on this disaster as a cohost, it would end his career.
I like Sam, but I don't imagine The Opie and Sam show would be very compelling. The current show isn't great either, but the Chinless Wit is the only thing that's there that keeps it from being completely unlistenable, at least for me
Whether or not Jim leaves, I would be stunned if they arent already planning to bring Sam back to the main show in some form. With the Stangels out the door it would not be difficult. Sam is smart enough to know that he gets more bang out the main show, such as it is now, than a spin off show late at night that simply cant have that many listeners. He could still have his own daytime show if he wanted. I thinkl binging Sam back would actually make it easier for Jim to stay as his humour would not just fal into the Opie void.
In October 2016 it'll be some sort of combination of Opie and Sherrod, Opie and Sam, Opie and Florentine, or whatever. There's no reinvention going on here, folks. It's Opie stumbling his way through another co-host as the quality of his show and the effort he puts forth every day continues to deteriorate. He's 60 years old and can't be bothered to change himself professionally or personally at this point. But he's still got the ol' Opster Ego, so he'll keep hinting to us that he's gonna do big things, biiig biiig things - just you wait!
He talks about it there but not the call you were talking about... when I hear that part I'll link it.. he seems like he's ok with it there but I think Jim definitely wanted way more closure on that fight they had on 12/01.. he doesn't seem very cool with it, and Opie tries to downplay the whole thing or brush it under the rug
"Jim and I are good, ya know, we put it out there"...(in reference to their squabble)
I think Op would be shocked and devastated if Jim didn't re-sign. His ego screams of that...
I read the edit but just wondering where people think Jim would go? His Vice show was not compelling. And moving it to IFC for an episode or two is a mistake since it will be even less accessible.

Yes. I would listen to this happily.

Which third of "entertaining" is Opie? I mean describe it. Steerin' the old ship?
7 Platos_one-hitter 2016-01-15
There's no way Opie's bringing 33% of the entertainment to the show.

He said "if Opie and I didn't work together anymore" then proceeded to list his Opie-less career options. Jesus Christ.

That is what Jim said. You have to remember what sub you're on. 48:09 for mobile users.

I'd rather listen to Sam+Jim than anything with Tits in it. And I'm not even fond of Sam.

I think we've all got our fingers crossed for the Opie & Sherrod Show, and by 'fingers crossed' I mean 'shotgun cocked with our toe on the trigger'.

They may as well move to terrestrial then. A proper unfunny morning zoo that.

Sam already said he likes his show, he doesn't want to go from having his own show to second mic with Opie.
We should push for The Sam and Jim show

Intern to Co-Host. Not a big Sam fan, but that would be very impressive.
