In this situation in particular I've got lots of black friends (and friends who are other races) who are great people, and it does genuinely bother me to hear them all lumped together and disparaged as a race when the intent is purely venomous. There's no guilt or Marxist agenda happening. I wasn't brainwashed by the media, I'm not trying to earn points with anyone, I just hear it and go "ugh what a stupid fucking asshole." It's visceral.
I've only ever voted democrat, but it was really more about economic issues for me. And then I realized that the Democratic party is only looking out for their donors. I think when either party throws around a social issue it is more of a dog whistle to rally the party than any real indication of actual policies they will enact. At this point I think voting at the national level is mostly theater, and both parties are completely corrupt. I'm old school and believe in labor rights, and no party cares about that - republican or democrat. You can call that Marxism if you want, I just say that real wages haven't increased in decades. It has no impact on my feelings on race.
