The internet and podcasts killed satellite radio

Howard's miserly ways, both $-wise and credit/fame-wise, killed satellite radio.

Hear me out.

At the time Stern made the move to satellite and was given hundreds of millions of dollars and a few channels to play with, he was comedy radio God. Everybody, including every comedian, listened to Stern. Every comedian of that generation not only listened, but they worshiped him, as they grew up on him, and they knew his power to sell tickets.

He could and should have scooped them all up, and put them on his channels. He should have created an "SNL for radio" type of situation, only funny.

Had he done that, had he opened up his wallet and shared a piece of the pie, satellite radio and podcasting would look very different today. He could have paid even the biggest podcasters (Carolla, Maron, Rogan) enough money to stay on his channels, and he could have done it without blinking. That, in turn, would have pulled more and more talent to him.

up next: why Howard Stern keeps pies in his wallet

PROG Directors & Lawyers killed it ... PERIOD.

Opie has always tried putting podcasts on the channel, and do you remember the Saturday night Virus? Burr has talked about how shitty Sirius is as a company on air before saying they have a we're paying you in exposure type of thing going on. Mark Normand also brought up things not working out with Tuesdays with stories and Jimmy mentioned something about Sirius wanting to own all of the content they produce. You have to blame the company on this one.

Hoohoo

Yeah it wasn't the people with the real money to shape the business but breakfast hosts.

They both had easy access to all the best talent and passed.

Who? A corny tough guy and a retarded race troll? Soder and Jay are on satellite, so I'm trying to think of who's left in the "talent wave".

SirusXM management not paying to buy up all the top podcasters did much more damage than Opie the destroyer could ever dream of. Now they are stuck trying to force youtube stars into audio only radio hosts as if they are fucking talented enough to do anything other than edit their own videos. Grabbing every up and coming comedian to host a regular show would have been less expensive than paying to have comedy central play episodes of Stand Up! Stand Up! into a microphone or have Jenna Marbles spit out nonsense and spin the weekly pop hits. Fucking disaster.
