The stangels are seriously great, Justin takes shit from everyone and always allows it, he plays a good punching bag, one time he melted down but it was still awesome. Eric Stangel is always correcting people or throwing in smug little side comments, I enjoy him on the air. I think the stangels would have been freaking awesome if Ant was still on the show. No matter what I can't bring myself to hate them although the making fun of them is funny, and the fact that they are so viciously hated for not much at all is funny

Gavin is love it hate it, I tihnk it was actually pretty smart to bring Gavin on for Anthony's more right wing fans. It also allows Anthony the space to not be so political in his broadcasts and just stick to the jokes and the comedy that made him famous and not berate us with unfunny, real statistics that cause real problems in society. He sucks the funny out of racial humor with his constant need to bring it into this realistic light that becomes more of a reverse social justice show. Bringing Gavin on for that reason has not panned out for Anthony, it really just drove the network further into a right wing he man woman hater's club. Anthony's so fucking funny when he makes fun of things but IMO it's just not comedy related to start bringing in the real shit on top of the jokes, it dampens the mood of the jokes, despite a lot of what he says I agree with, it's 2 different worlds

I love LOS and really enjoy them a lot but sometimes their show becomes so amateur when they get drunk and high and constantly yell over each other. I was watching this guy's podcast Red Bar Radio last night and he made a great point about LOS.. he was saying he listened to one of their shows in the morning when he was in coffee mode and it was just no good, way too high energy and crazy, but in the actual scene it looks like they're having fun. I don't think LOS cares about putting on a fundamentally good radio show though, they use the podcast to promote themselves and build a fan base, cross promote with other comics and their fanbases etc. They could have been a fantastic grab for TACN if they actually signed a deal that made them proprietary to the network, but LOS releases so much of their stuff for free you really don't even need to subscribe to TACN to follow them

Yeah true, at the time I didn't pick anything up at all but now listening back on YouTube, their names pop up here and there, maybe they might have played a part in getting the show on letterman but idk. It makes it even funnier in a dark way that they were sincere fans of the original O&A show, wanted to work for the show out of a genuine appreciation of it, and then were met with relentless hatred for no reason. In the days after the fight, Justin stepped up big and started 3rd micing a little bit, and he always laughs at Norton's jokes when Opie deliberately ignores him. He's an unsung hero

honestly i feel like they may have expected this sort of thing to happen if they had any on air involvement on the show, which is why they stepped up to do this shit, part of the show was the staff getting hate spewn at them/torn apart by the hosts. it seems like this sort of 'bit' is still happening, atleast in regards to the stangels, just its more subtle and seems legit since they're writers.

No, you got me there. No one fucks with Denny but Jim and Anthony. I agree he's not funny but by being there he lets other people be funny by trashing him. People like Opie will derail others from insulting them and ruin everything and replace the laughter with a feeling of cringe and awkwardness at how they take it. There's been so many times the room just deflates when it's Opie's turn to take a beating and he can't take it. But Justin sort of just gets all up in a huff but it seems like its still in good fun. It never stops anyone from trashing him or deflates the energy when they do and he tries to defend himself. It's been the source of some of the few times I've laughed at the show over the past year.

To be honest, I never watch these episodes like I am glued to them. With O&A sometimes I could just sit and do nothing else but listen, it was captivating at certain times like that. This show very rarely reaches those levels for me, but pretty much no other radio show I've ever listened to besides Howard does that. That being said I do find it very enjoyabel and get some good laughs from it but if you end up reaffirming your dislike for it, you won't be alone thats for sure

I try to stop comparing things to OnA, because nothing matches it. I think it was the best radio show ever, so if I hold everything to that standard, I'll always be disappointed. The Bonfire is good, but it's nothing like OnA, and sometimes I get sick of their whole dudebro schtick. It's good though, I'm just jaded.

I've only ever heard Karl and Ricky together on Gervais' old HBO cartoon. It was funny, but the way Ricky would get so angry and annoyed with Karl pissed me off. I know "that's the bit", but he just got on my nerves. I love Karl though, so I'll check it out.
