Anything up to and including 1 year can be done in county jail, which is not prison. People coming and going for minor shit, awaiting trial and whatnot. You can encounter serious criminals, but you aren't locked nexted to them for years. You won't get raped, and as far as our jail goes they have 5 separate pods where you get "classified" as what type of offender you are. Where as an 18 year old in for a minor charge doesn't get locked down with a murderer.
Jail/prison is nothing like you think it is. Everyone I know who has been in says it's really nothing like TV and you'll do your time and get out as long as you keep your head down.
