There's a certain appearance where Jim does Chip over and over again throughout the show. Patrice laughs hard several times but never outright acknowledges or talks to Chip.
With a larger than life character like Patrice Jim didn't need characters. I recall when he did do them they were successful, but they were usually distractions to whatever interesting stuff Patrice was bringing up.
I still cite their discussion of Face/Off when discussing terrible films.
