It sounds to me that Opie is really insecure about how old & out of shape he's getting & you know he's gotta be afraid that he's not pleasing his young hot wife anymore. That's why he got so defensive.
We all know Opie is the most romantic with his wife who is young enough to be his daughter. He smiles so she can see his garbage disposal teeth as she runs her fingers they his hairs.
