I think that call might have actually gotten through to him if not for a miniscule amount. A few times he referenced it he wasn't even mocking it at all.

I noticed also he's trying to throw more jokes in. He was adding a lot on Sherrod's jokes etc. Not saying they were funny or good, but I have noticed a tiny, slight change in his behavior in there

I actually thought that too. Opie is such a dunderhead that I wouldn't doubt that it might take a little turn of phrase like "Take the hit [for once]" to momentarily allow some self-awareness.
